leaks with rtv used
I applied a thin coat of red(ish orange) high temp rtv to the gaskets before installing them. The leaks appears in the form of a steady drip of lube oil coming out of the area between the front oil cooler mount and the block on the underside. The oil cooler end cap is not...
leaking oilcooler after new gaskets installed
I recently installed a used replacment 6.9l engine in my 1986 f250. I have been plagued by a number of setbacks which continue to keep me from using this truck. the latest is that I discovered that my oilcooler is leaking! It is leaking at the front...
I was able to install the E250 radiator in my f250, but I had to drill new hole to mount the radiator in the truch and new holes for the shroud. The external size was the same for both radiators. Unfortunately my old radiator was a 4 row and this one is a 3 row. So long term, I am still looking...
I got my replacement engine running last night. It started immediately once I got the fuel system primed. It runs good and doesn't smoke. I got the ssgpcontoller wired in too. The radiator that came with my truck is really rotten. It held water when I got the truck and first started it, but now...
I finally got the replacement6.9 installed in my f250. This engine came from a van. I had to remove the oilcooler to remove the van motor mount. I replaced it with the truck oilcooler since it was off anyway. My service manual says to bleed the cooling system and prime the lube oil system after...
I called my local ford truck dealer(25 miles away) and the service guy said it was okay to reuse the flywheel bolts on a non dual mass fw. He looked up the number of the sealant speced in the service manual and said that the high temp RTV silicon would be fine to use. The bolts list for $17.58...
I am ready to swap a flexplate for a flywheel. The service manual says to coat the flywheel attachment bolts threads portion with sealant BSA-19-554a. Anyone know what this stuff is? Do I have to go to ford or navistar to get it?
I am in the process of exchanging engines in my "86 f250. I need to get the fan clutch off on engine and on to the other. I know the clutch is screwed on with reverse threads. I don't have the special tools mentioned in the service manual. I can get a wrench onto the hex nut no problem. I don't...
I just found a website which answered all my questions regarding wiring changes to update the glowplug controller and relay on my 6.9.Wiring diagrams as well as text. There is info here which goes clear back to the early '83 contoller. Lots of other great info here as well...
I just did this repair yesterday. I took my right hub apart to replace the rotor and noticed that the steering knuckle ujoint was sloppy. I pulled the spindle off and separated the right shaft at the sliding joint under the rubber boot. My axle was pretty rusty. I marked both sides of the spline...
Thanks for the speedy reply. I have a t-19 trans. I have been contemplating changing the rear seal. It doesn't leak at all now, the torque converter in the van was totally dry. I may leave it alone since I can change it by removing the trans mission later. I may regret this decision.
As I said in my last post. I recently purchased( last thursday) a 1986 F250HD extended cab 4speed 4X4 with a bad motor. I tore into the front axle(dana 50ifs) and replaced the axle shaft u joints at the steering knuckles, repacked wheel bearings, installed new rotor on the right side and new...
I've got a unimog. It's great for pulling out stuck wahoo 4X4's that are top heavy with minimal ground clearance at the axles, but a modern diesel pickup is great for pulling a trailer loaded with a unimog over pavement at highway speeds. My mog has 16'' of ground clearance under the...
I just bought a 1986 F250HD extended cabXLt lariat 4X4, 4 speed 6.9. The engine runs but has a horrific rod knock. The PO ran it low on oil!!! He even had extra lubeoil in the truck. I am planning to replace this engine with a locally available used one. I have found a few of these engines but...
