Yea, I know, I know.....I've got 3 idi's already. Two need rebuilt though and the other is in a truck. Plus they're even heavier. It's just goin to be a RatRod and I wanted to put a 4BT in it, but plans had changed gears and went with the crown Vic chassis and intended to build a nasty gasser...
I recently aquired an inline 4-cyl 4.5L JD turbo diesel. These things are rated anywhere from 80-150HP from Deere. I've got some questions about the motor AND about doing an actual swap as well. I'm just wondering how much power I could make economically with one, just by some simple...
I just need to know the correct size and/or amperage fuse to run to POWER the Glow Plug relay. Normally the fusible links that run from the starter relay to the GPC.
Ok so now a couple more questions:
1. I replace the GPC fusible link wires with 10 or 12ga? And I run two wires or only one?
(I'm thinking mine had dual 14ga, but they weren't factory)
2. If the controller itself is bad and I run a push button GP system, do I still have to replace the...
I think my relay has two small posts...so one is just a jumper to ground though?
Anyway, I'll check the clutch switch....I always forget about those pesky things. How do I bypass it OR change to a switch?
The key switch I'm not sure about....I'm not in the truck enough to know. It's been...
Well I just thought that if none of the glow plugs were functioning (no power) the WTS light and buzzer wouldn't stay on the full time. That what everyone says is a tale take sign of burnt glow plugs so I'm confused still? Lol.
All the other info helps a lot though. I'll check it with a...
I've got an 8.7, 6.9 truck (has the 88+ GP system) and the fusible link from the starter relay to the GP relay burned. So I have a few questions to get it fixed.....this truck has been reworked a time or two I think. Fusible link had already been replaced with two green 14ga? Link wires.
1...
Trying to sort out some wiring issues with my 87 and one is that it won't crank by the key. It will crank if I cross the posts on the relay, so I assume it's bad but someone else said it may not be.....so how can I test it? Also does anyone have the part number? Autozone doesn't show any for any...
Ok, guess I've got a lot of testing to do. What can I use for the fusible link wire to check it AND then replace it when I find the problem? Mine are burnt really bad. And where's the best place to get a new relay?
Ok so neither problem would have cause the other? Because they happened at the same time as far as I know....unless they both went bad sitting for a few months. But I don't think so. Also on the fusible link wires....when I noticed the were burnt I touched them together again and they...
Both fusible link wires burned about 4" and I'm not sure about the GP controller but the STARTER relay is what isn't working. I have to cross the terminals for it to crank.....and it of course doesn't start :/
I am really interested in this! Mine is doing basically the same thing...mine won't even start off the key, it has to be pull started and purges tons of air at the Schrader valve and basically runs the filter dry. Mine has a mechanical pump with a hose from the tank directly to the pump totally...
When we convert our trucks (or anything) to R-134a, we have to have the vacuum pulled so that they will hold the right amount of refrigerant and not lock the compressor up from too much pressure, right?!?! Does anyone know where we can get all new seals and basic parts for these trucks? My pump...
The last time I drove my truck, we pull started it because the batteries were dead, or so I thought...turns out the fusible link wire to the glow plug solenoid burnt in half and the started solenoid went bad because it wouldn't turn over. It's an 87 6.9 with the new style (7.3 style) wiring...
She also just gets aggravated because, well......we have 6 licensed and insured vehicles, lol. She drives ONE and I tend to drive about 2 and three just burn insurance hahaha. I just tell her our boy will have several nice classics when he's old enough to drive ;)
Hahaha! Yea I keep telling her that......it's also about 95% rust free. Any powerstoke, Chevy or any other truck about 4 years old or older will probably have more rust than this truck. It also had the potential to get 20+mpg and run WMO :D
Thanks that was the main thing I was asking, no I can better diagnose everything.
I do not know if the FSV has power while cranking, that's what I've got to check the next time I get a change, then I'm gonna try the jug on the ground trick. The starting system seemed ok, but you never know I...
Always cranks over with key and it has power to the FSV with key in on position, BUT that's why I asked about oil pressure shut down.....I don't know if when I start cranking if the FSV loses power.
Sorry......guess I didn't think that was a factor since it was acting the same before I changed the IP. EXCEPT before it wouldn't start back hot period!
It's from Pensacola diesel I think. I bought it from a neighbor....he bought all new stuff for his, put it all on, drive it 25 miles one...
