    PTO?

I have a Triple-C Hydrabed on my pickup. It has an engine driven hydraulic pump that runs the bale bed, as well as a hydraulic auger feeder and I also run my hydraulic chute with it. I have another bale bed that is 12V electric over hydraulic, but I like the straight hydraulic better. I have...

    Both tanks leaking...

I just had a local shop replace my rear tank on an '86 a couple of days ago. Parts were $244, labor was $180.

diesel run away tonight while going down the road

I was combing the chuffing threads pretty hard, but I'm wanting to be in denial, and didn't want to start another chuffing thread, so thought I'd revive this one which is where my little journey began rather than pile onto those. I'm thinking I'm going to finish injection pump, injectors...

diesel run away tonight while going down the road

Continuation of a thread I hijacked last summer. I finally got around to ordering my pump and injectors. The truck hasn't been started all winter and while I had the pump and hard lines out of the way, I decided to check compression before I remove the old injectors. I didn't think of it...

    Champion Glow Plugs

I just pulled my Champions out, they had been in there about 18 months and 3000 miles, and the back two had what looked like some erosion starting on the tips. They came out easy, but they were starting to come apart. I didn't even drive the pickup this winter, so they had one winter on them...

    Spring fever

That reminds me, I need to get my core pump pulled out and sent in. I miss driving that pickup as well.

    Decent size load to tow...

I've had DOT look at the door sticker on the pickup and add the GVW figure to the GVW figure on the trailer and come to the conclusion that I needed a CDL-over 26,000lbs. Looks like if DOT went by stickers like they did to me, you'd need a CDL. Doesn't matter if you are running empty, if the...

    Mud Flaps (Don't hit me!)

On my '97, I used 1'X1.5" steel tube, and welded it to the side frames of the receiver hitch. I used the mudflaps for a drill template and also sandwiched the flaps between the tube and a piece of flat bar to spread the pressure to prevent the flaps from tearing around the bolt holes. In my...

    does cold thick fuel=more power?

I think the fuel is the same as the air, the colder it is, the denser it is, the more BTUs packed into each squirt. Some drag racers used cool cans where they would run coils of fuel line through a coffee can with dry ice, or regular ice in it to cool the fuel to make it more dense. Same...

    ZF5 and PTO

I have a Triple C Hydra-bed on my pickup that runs off an engine mounted hydraulic pump. I think the setup minus the bale bed is around a couple grand.

    Pull starting... Any tips?

I usually keep a little catalytic propane heater in the vehicles during winter, the ones that screw on a one pound bottle, and I figure one of those would heat up a generator enough to get it started so you could plug in. Might not be handy for everyday at work, but I'm thinking if you ended up...

    Pull starting... Any tips?

Believe it or not, I have pull started my 6.5k diesel gen at around 15 degrees. I can't seem to keep a good battery in it even though I start it three or four times a year, so I thought I'd better try out the rope start and I got it on the second pull.

    Pull starting... Any tips?

I used to have a little $500 Subaru 4X4 wagon for that purpose. Now I hardly drive anywhere without needing a pickup, if I was working a wage job again, I'd get me another Subaru.

    Pull starting... Any tips?

I've thought about one of those little Honda "suitcase" generators to run the block heater for a bit when you are isolated from an electrical outlet. I wonder how those things pull start in below zero temps. For the price, I guess maybe you could go for a diesel fired block heater for a little...

    Dana 60 front 1993 into 1997

Will a Dana 60 front end from a 1993 F-350 4X4 bolt into my 1997 F250 4X4? The gear ratios are the same. Also what would the rear end on the 1993 pickup be?

    winter front

If you want to be cool like me, use your empty Howes box. If you don't have an empty Howes box, you don't need a winter front in the first place.

I screwed up, now no start.

I gelled my '86 6.9 up with #2 fuel. I filled a new fuel filter up half way or better with 911 and spun it on, then dumped the rest of the 911 into the tank. I got it running and used it that day for feeding cows. The next morning it was gelled up again after being plugged in all night. This...

pete 379 seen on youtube with pickup bed

It would probably vary by state. In South Dakota, anything over 8000gvw must stop, excluding RVs. I suppose if you didn't look RV enough they may run you down if you didn't stop. You may need an air brake endorsement, and I don't know if those can be had without some level of CDL.

    Flat deck

Write up a detailed bill of materials and price it all out. Around here, I can get a nice steel flatbed with headache rack, gooseneck ball, all lights, mudflaps etc., installed for around two thousand dollars. I tried to save some money and build my own car hauler years ago. I was at the...

    Help Removing glow plugs

When I did mine recently, I had to move the fuel return lines ever so slightly to get the socket and extension on the glow plugs. Well, ever so slightly was all it took to make them leak. When I fired the pickup up the first time with the new plugs, it sputtered and died. It would restart...

Alrighty, a few issues to tinker with

I just swapped out my autolights for berus and in the process must have moved my return lines around too much. There are all leaking now and forming fuel puddles on my intake. It started to stumble upon startup and then dies. Once restarted it run good, except for the fuel leaking out.
