Sir I was simply sharing what happened, I would not have cranked any longer. I was proud of my ole beat up truck for starting the way it did, One never knows when glows plugs may become inoperable so it's nice to know what it could do if needed. I read those posts and yes they are informative...
How you figure that? I built my starter, Pressure set my injectors, Timed my pump, Installed my truetrac done my zf swap and a few other mods all myself so I know a little about what I'm doing. The consequences of cranking for maybe 10 seconds aren't really much of a concern, Now do that...
Dont get all bent out of shape. I was just curious, I know when to stop. Thought I'd share how a properly working idi will fire with reasonable temps without plugs.
I have 12 volt glow plugs on a manual switch, Decided to try it at 52 degrees this morning without them.. After 10 seconds of cranking bam she lit right off. Nothing like having a properly tuned fast cranking idi..
Anytime I do a manual setup I use 12 volt glow plugs, They take a little longer to heat but you can hold them indefinitely with out burning any out. I tested an autolite 1110 on jumper cables with my truck running, let it glow for over 5 minutes without burning out or swelling. Yes the 6 volt...
Thanks.. Is this the same part?

After breaking my clutch fork and ordering another one I've decided to go ahead and replace the entire clutch assembly since the one that is in it came from the donor that my zf came from. It still worked fine until the fork broke but I just wanna do it, I have decided to use a luk kit. It's...
No worries, I been wrenching for too long. Did the entire zf swap myself and the truetrac and tons of other crap I felt I needed to spend money on. Love my old truck though, it's sure been good to me.
Fork came out without pulling the trans, I'm assuming the new one will slide back in.. All clutch components are fairly new so I'm not pulling the trans If I don't have too.
I'll just say I've had alot of fun with it since the zf swap, And even more fun after the truetrac install. It hasn't had an easy life. I had noticed it getting hard to get into gear at times, So I believe it was bent for some time before it gave up. You play you pay I suppose.
This happened about 15 miles from home with a 16 foot trailer in tow, I was able to drive it back home with no clutch whatsoever.. I've already ordered a new one just have to wait on it to get here.
Was on the interstate today running later for an appt so I had her cranked up for about 60 miles like this, Averaged almost 14 mpg.. I got 245/75's on it and the speedo is about 3-4 slow. Was still getting passed.
I just installed a 33 gallon bronco tank on mine, Removed the mid tank as well. I like the single tank better myself, Everyone has there preference though. For me it's plenty of range.
I'm using the same setup in my truck. Had to have the driveshaft shortened and the f450 yoke put on the front as the u-joint is much larger. Thinking about ditching it for a T-case, Just so I will have a 2 low option.
Give it some new filters and an oil change and take it out and give it a good workout and see of it starts clearing up. Fill that fuel filter with some additive and the tanks too.. Could be retarded timing, Slobbering injectors, Or even a worn pump. But I'd give it a good workout first.
I got a Carter p4070 a couple years ago, I ordered a buddy one at the same time for his 6.9 that I help maintain.. Both are still working great. You don't really hear of too many of these failing.
