Hmm, fair enough. That's the same link I purchased mine from. Our boiling point is around 195*F here, which is why I gave it a little time. Might give it a go in some cooking oil on the stove.
Good call on the actual boiling temp. That said, 195* is about where mine sits at cruising speeds on the freeway so it should definitely be open at least somewhat by then.
Just cause I'm curious, what's your altitude?

A $30 Equus mechanical coolant temp gauge has worked well for me. Again, test it in boiling water to make sure it's accurate. I swapped out to Auber Instruments digital gauges so I could wire in my own idiot light/alarm combo--their sensors seem to be accurate as the mechanical and digital read the same but response time is better on the digital. I also recommend their oil pressure sensor & gauge combo--381k on the engine and 38psi at ~2000RPM and 14psi idle though I haven't compared with a mechanical pressure gauge. An it's kind of interesting to see oil pressure drop as the oil temp increases. On a cold morning I see upwards of 52psi.

I've been running the black faced mechanical one since 2019. Grabbed it from the RV before I sold it and moved it to my current van.

Where is your pressure sensor?
