Got a little bit more expensive, decided to order a battery tray for a 6.0 power stroke, since it has the exact mount required for the air filter, and has the battery turned sideways so that it fits better.

I will need to find a 3.75” to 2.75” boot for the intake to fit up to my Hypermax Engineering turbo, as it has a fairly small inlet
Well s***

Got even more complicated, but only $20 more expensive

The adapter from the air filter to the turbo is from a BMW.

Finally

Some progress
Moved the vacuum can to under the cruise control actuator, and put the 6.0 battery tray in, mounted to the coolant reservoir holes. I am putting a CDD reservoir in, mounts on the side of the radiator. The filter fits in perfectly, just clears the brake master cylinder by half an inch.

The tray was another $40, but necessary, as the filter attaches to it

Lots of cutting involved… but it’s in there now. I have not driven it yet, but I do not think that this is a worthwhile modification. I suppose I will see…

Well after driving it about 15 miles, I noticed slightly lower EGTs, better turbo response, and it made the engine quieter. I don’t understand how that works… it’s a free flowing filter. How does that make the engine quieter!?

Lower intake air restriction allows more air in, plus having the colder air intake will help too. Common practice done on vw tdi's is to put a larger turbo inlet pipe in and have it a big sweeping curve to help reduce turbulence. Your pipe is pretty straight so it helps

I understand that, but why does that make the engine quieter?

I also noticed that when I really get on it the EGTs do not climb near as fast as they did before… I still don’t know that I would say that this modification is worth it…

If I had to guess, it's because the intake is further away from the drivers seat.
I guess that makes sense. And the piping is longer. The Hypermax plenum was smooth on the inside, and made of metal, and the standard round air filter, which the Hypermax system uses, is known for excessive intake noise, especially without the soup bowl. So this does make sense. Just rather surprising that it makes it that much quieter…

I am not complaining about the fact that it is quieter, more comfortable to drive now…

Couple it with an intercooler and a muffler, should be nice and quiet…
