Well, since the closest diesel mechanic is 4 hrs away and not much smarter than one of the first things to walk on earth, I bought the timing tool kit from JD's Diesel for $180. Includes socket for DV, dial indicator w/adapter, and IP gear puller. Now, the engine data plate says IP timing...- wayfarnorth

price on a 94
My t-case was clinking and banging last yr. Turned out that the wear pads on the shift forks were toast and the gearing inside wouldn't engage right. Well I think mine are orginal injectors...630 000KM on them, if they are....might be time to put new ones in. How about the best place to get new ones and how much should I expect to pay for them?- wayfarnorth

What is this for? (pic)
Not that anyone cares at this point since its an old post, but I think that hole is for using a barring tool made by Snap-On (Blue Point to be exact) P/N YA9565A about $50 Turns the engine over by hand.- wayfarnorth

Hot starting ??
Its just a thought but, have you checked the shut off solenoid? Mine was acting all funny and causing hard starting issues. There is a thread in here some where about using a Ford solenoid instead of the cummins one. Saves big $$$ from what I remember.- wayfarnorth

47RE to NV4500
I haven't done it to a Dodge but with a small car. I went the other way, swapped out the 5 speed for an automatic and it was kinda a pain. I was lucky enough to be able to get all the parts I needed from a scrap yard. I think you'd be needing a bell housing for the clutch, then you'd have to...- wayfarnorth

5.9 should I buy this?
I bought the factory Service manual from Chrysler for my truck and it was about $100. it had a complete tear down and rebuild for all the engines in a 97 Dodge 1500 to 3500, including the 5.9L cummins. All the specs and procedures are in there. I definatley think it was worth the money.- wayfarnorth

4x4 shfter adjustments?!?!
There will be 2 lines under the Tcase at the front that connect up to the CAD vacuum motor lines that run along the frame on the right hand side. Also make sure that the 4 way switch on top of the T case is on properly and not leaking. There is a breather line coming off the top RH or LH side...- wayfarnorth

Cummins block heater???
I was able to buy a new block heater from a parts store. I think all you would have to do is knock out a frost plug and install it. Another way and by far a better heater, would be to install a circulating block heater. They circulate the coolant all around the engine and when you go to start...- wayfarnorth

Cold Weather Tips
Synthetic Oil - I use 0-40, but it gets to -40 C here. Also I have a circulating block heater, not just the stock one.
