I have been asked to tow my brothers ram charger on a flat bed car hauler trailer. He said it weighs around 7500lbs so I round up just to be sure.
My front breaks are at 50% wear and back breaks I have never looked at. I won't be using trailer breaks.
This may seem like a dumb question I just have never pulled anything behind my truck other than a lawn mower trailer (little bitty) thing.
Honestly I'm interested to see how she will do.

It'll be fine.
May readjust the rears.
If it's long enough, you can adjust it on the trailer for perfect tongue weight.

That's a lot of weight with no brakes especially if you don't tow regularly and aren't used to it. Panic stop could be really hairy.

I pulled the controller out a while ago.
Trailer has breaks but they aren't working up to par from what my brother told me.

with all due respect, anyone claiming you'll be ok towing 8k lbs without trailer brakes are making, very, very, very dangerous and poor suggestions.

no.the answer to your question is hell no.no you cannot tow 8k lbs without trailer brakes.if you do it and kill someone you'll have to live with that the rest of your days.it is not worth it!

this is the correct answer:

you NEED trailer brakes.
period.
yea I know.

it would be one thing if you you were only willing to risk your life.your not though.don't risk others you'll be sharing the road with, without their say.that's not fair to them.

How far are you planning to tow this? Are there any freeways involved? Your truck can pull it easily but stopping suddenly might be a little difficult.

pulling a trailer that carried a 9,800-pound Bobcat loader. State Highway Patrol records show that troopers who inspected the truck and trailer after the crash found that:

▪ The trailer’s electric brakes did not function because they were not wired to the truck.

Michelle S. Barlow of Wake Forest was killed on March 22 when her minivan, stopped in traffic on U.S. 1, was rammed from behind.

.........................

the driver didn't ask Michelle if she would be ok with sharing the road with Donald if he chose to tow without trailer brakes.if only she knew someone was going to endanger her life, she could of stayed home.now she doesn't get to go home to her loved ones.what if you were Donald? imagine feeling how he must feel? don't be Donald!

Whats your trailer ball rated for? most are 5000lbs. If you happen to get in an accident and do not have trailer brakes consider your life over. You will be so far into lawsuits you will never dig out.

That mini van is about 12 inches long.

Your truck will pull that trailer. Your brakes will not stop it in a timely manner. No ifs, ands, or buts.
