I want to turbo my 85 6.9. I planned on putting head studs, I really would like to get close to 600 ft lbs. my truck only has a 110k so the block is in great shape and been tooken care of. I was thinking of doing the banks turbo kit..

Probably won't see 600 lbsft then with banks kit...takes a whole lot more n that...

This is what it takes to hit that number.
http://www.oilburners.net/forums/showthread.php?55362-NMB2-dyno

These aren't powerstrokes where you can plug in a computer (or turbo in this case) and just make power (right up till you blow the motor). You're looking at a turbo and upgraded injection system to get the most out of a stock engine, and consider an inter cooler. If you can live with what this engine is capable of (unless you want to do a $$$ build), that's what you need, but you still probably won't hit your goal.

This is realistic

Now if you're talking at the crank numbers, a couple of the better performing trucks in that thread above likely came close when factoring in drivetrain loss.

As an example, the banks advertised gains of UP TO (best case scenario) would put you around 250/480 at the crank.

Well with the e4od it makes 525 but a manual can push out more. I'm just wondering if I put a cam in it and what not would I reach it. I turned my pump up like half of a turn and that helped a lot

Well I want my truck to be able to take my friends 1st gen cummins in a tug of war his is stock at 160hp and 400 torque but it has 356k. But he's super cocky about it and I would love for the 6.9 to beat it. Even if I can get the 525 banks claim I wouldn't be to upset. But I just want to take all the precautions before doing it

what you need is pretty much an entire new engine.
new fuel system, new turbo, new exhaust...
pretty much upgrade everything.

i hope your pockets are deep!
if i were you, i would build my truck for myself, and not worry about what some cocky puke says or thinks.

dont chase someone elses dream, live yours.

Well I'd like something that tows good I live in Utah and I do tow Alot. And this same kid think his truck can beat a 03 7.3 and acts like all ford diesels are bad. But yeah it was my great grandpas truck it sat for 7 years and I put new batteries in it and fired right up. He bought it brand new in 85 I even have the sales certificate for it. He barley drove it as well

He had plan to turbo it in the late 90s but stopped going to the ranch he kept it at. My grandpa told me this. But I am restoring the body to original specs not lifting it or anything. But I'm not looking to build a hot rod I just want a good towing rig. Suppose I'll drive a turbo Idi and see how I like it or if it's even worth ut
