i saw this at Fall Carlisle and i could not resist snapping some pictures. the best the guy could tell me is it came off of some detroit engine that they scrapped. i am sure someone has seen them and worked on them but this is the first time i have seen a factory turbo blowing into a supercharger stock. i know this comes up every now and then if it is possible so i thought i would share. might be a little tall to fit under our hoods though:D

I know the off-road fire trucks on airports have detroits that are turbo/supercharged. I think the turbo feeds the supercharger.

All twostroke detroits had a blower to help push exhaust gasses out. The turbo is the power adder to bring hp up. Turbo pushes into the blower

Somebody explain to me how that would work. My understanding of the blower is that there are two "gears" if you will that are real long that mash the air in. They are mechanically linked to the drive belt. Would there always be a negative presure or a positive presure under the turbo?

no the SC has positive on the engine side and negative on the intake, which the turbo feeds constantly, but the turbo is pushing more to the SC. when it gets there it is composed again = more boost. basically instant no lag boost.

kids and a mortgage sure cut into my play money:D i have never worked on a supercharger but it looked like it was missing a bunch of little things. little things add up fast as anyone who has had to work on a project knows!

sure would have made a nice centerpiece for a dining room table though.

twincharged motors are awesome. I haven't seen one set up like that though. To make the ones that I've seen work, the air filter hooks up to the turbo which then feeds the intake of the supercharger which feeds the motor. Like they said, no turbo lag and you end up with much more power. It works really well on tiny displacement motors apprently.

That is a 6v92 bypass blower/turbo assy, when the turbo boosts more than the SC can take, there is a bypass valve under that little servo can that opens up the endplate and feeds air around the blower rotors.

Yeah I have worked on too many of those.

Same setup my grandfather has for his 8v71 in his prevost.

Don't the 2 strokes need those blowers to idle?

They need the blower to do anything. No way to scavenge exhaust out of the cylinder.
I have ran one without the blower, talk about roll coal, you can almost scoop it up and bag it LOL.

What kind of boost do DD's make? Wouldn't they move a crap ton of cfm's as they have double the amount of induction (read taking boost into cylinder) at a given rpm.
