They should go back to the time they changed them in 90 or so and replace them all with the old metal straps. I have seen tailgates bend under load but the straps held fine.

I wonder if the replacement straps will at least be the same length

There is a ford dude on an other site that is making stainless steel straps like the old ones that are pretty slick if this recall doesn't cover your truck.

I like the idea of the SS straps, hopefully I'll get my notice in the mail before I destroy my tailgate..

I wonder if they'll replace the tailgate if the stock cables snap and wreck it?
