    Cup holders

It’s also a welcome distraction from the times we live in. I’m seriously considering those inserts that were shown earlier in the thread, though. The molded cup holders on the 80s era center console never seem to hold anything properly.

    Cup holders

My mid 80s E24 didn’t even have cup holders. Instead, you had a cooler between the rear seats with a molded liner to secure 3 cans of beverage while you were putting the car through its paces. Germans took motor vehicle safety very seriously, even back then so they didn’t want to condone driving...

    Self regulating glow plugs

I’ve been running the autolite 1115s as well for a couple years with no issues. I bench tested each of them for one minute before installing. 10 seconds is enough to get just as hot as the Beru plugs would. Like others, I got tired of the premature failures I was seeing with the OEM plugs. I...

    Double Cardan Front Driveshaft Parts

I ended up just ordering a whole drive shaft. The old one was too far gone.

    e locker 10.25

Nice job! As I mentioned on the other thread, the factory bulkhead connector is probably not worth the trouble. Using a heat shrink on the wires before coming through the cable gland is also a very good idea, since the gland can’t properly seal against multiple wires. Some folks are aware of...

    Factory Ford E-Locker Install

If I were to do it again, I’d probably just pass the wires through the gap for the gasket, with a couple of notches carved into the cover plate. That’s how I’m told most of the conversions are done. The starboard ended up slowly weeping oil so I recently replaced it with a piece of steel and a...

    U-joint warning chime

I’ve been lucky so far. Never had a center support bearing fail. I wanted to swap in a single piece driveshaft but was told by one shop that it can’t be done. And unfortunately, there aren’t many driveline shops in my neck of the woods.

Hmm, for some reason the photos didn’t attach last night. Updated the OP.

    U-joint warning chime

For the last couple months I started having a clank sound from somewhere under the truck whenever I shift between forward and reverse. More pronounced when in low range, due to the higher torque pulse. Usually I see the rear u joint fail first but after changing the rear two, I started second...

We got a little recognition on YouTube

12V, not 24V. And the blanked off vent he's pointing to is where the clock/calendar/trip timer would be, not where the AC vents would be. Otherwise, not a bad review. Anyone else notice the ether port on the intake duct?

    Air shocks

That's basically the idea. I daily the truck for work during the week, and it's not every weekend that I'm able to go off on some adventure in the woods, so the idea of a permanent lift doesn't appeal to me. rolling sleeve bags might work, but not as a replacement for shocks, due to their...

    Air shocks

Anyone tried air shocks on their cars or trucks? I'm finding plenty of info for air bags that are used for load leveling, but not much info on using shocks and struts. So far, I can identify the convoluted style bags, which are for load leveling and not good for lifts since they stiffen when...

    400 Miles and some off-road

Glad to see another bullnose on vacation. Even hard working trucks need some time off. I don't have a camper for mine, so I just slept in the cab.

So what did you do with your truck today?

Built a mount for my Iphone in the truck. The holes were already in the dash from a previous owner, so I modified one of those amazon kits but bolting the mounting ball to the plate. the swivel ball is usually a weak point on these things, so hopefully the bolt will reinforce things a bit.

    underbody/frame coating recommendations

Powder coating tends to fail quickly once it's scratched. Hot dip galvanizing is much more effective and costs about the same. Sometimes less. I used Raptor Liner on the exposed floor of my cab when I did the frame off resto years ago. It held up pretty well but isn't as durable as linex...

So what did you do with your truck today?

Replaced the sleeve couplings in my stainless steel exhaust with V-band clamps. No more leaks and easier to take apart if needed. Maybe someday I'll upgrade to a 4" pipe but until then, this is will do.

    80-91 tilt column rebuild

It's not really Keyed, in the conventional sense. Instead, it has a flat machined on one side. It's not much deeper than the splines themselves. You can see the flat machined part in the attached photo at the 2:45 O'clock position. You have to zoom in close to see it though. If I ever tear...

    80-91 tilt column rebuild

I'm not disagreeing with correctly finding the center of the steering box, but have my doubts that the shaft will can be that far off. If it is, it needs to be replaced. And in the case of my own truck I wouldn't want to force the splines on the steering shaft/wheel to fit somewhere it wasn't...

    80-91 tilt column rebuild

As far as I knew, there is no way to install the steering wheel any other way, unless it was forced on somehow. There may be differences with with other setups, but when I had mine apart, there was no way to install the rotating parts any other way, where splines were involved. The Steering...

    RIP Bill Hewitt

According to this, Bill Hewitt at PowerstrokeHelp.com has passed away. I can recall watching many hours of Bill Hewitt's videos even though I didn't own a powerstroke. History of the 6.0, all the dirty details of the 6.4, he was a walking encyclopedia. And funny enough, we now have a 6.0...

    Trans Temp too cold?

Sounds a bit like running an autobody shop. You can do a good job, or you can earn a living; you can't do both because a good job costs more than what most are willing to pay. Most folks who need a transmission rebuilt can't afford to pay what it takes to make it bullet proof. It's a grudge buy...

    Trans Temp too cold?

I've read that you can command lockup all the way down to 1st gear but I never tested it. I did run 2nd gear lockup on the highway without issues. Actually I miss being able to do that with the 3.08 gears. That was perfect for blasting up 10% grades at 2500 RPM with a trailer in tow.

    Trans Temp too cold?

I think mine may have reached 190F at one point while climbing (ramming) uphill through snow melt (heavy stuff). The worst of it was early in the summer, before I installed the temp gauge so I don't know for sure how hot it was. But I figured it was safe to say some heat would be generated by a...

    Trans Temp too cold?

Respect. I'd have done the same. I got 13 years out of the first build, and it only failed because I installed one of the seals backwards (intermediate clutch piston) . They were pretty pliable when I tore it down. Hopefully the new ones will last as well (2 years, and counting). I am running...

    Trans Temp too cold?

And here I thought I had a long term ownership with my truck. The guy's been around. Makes me wonder if I should get some Michelin LTX tires next time. This isn't the first time I've heard good things about their longevity. I like my current Toyo AT3s but they're done after 2 years. Admittedly...
