One of these 8 glow plugs.....

Never have - it was the PO that put that one plug in there

One of these 8 glow plugs.....

Ok, the head is out. I figured I would post up a few pics and some info for future searchers. Note that this info refers to the PASSENGER SIDE head only. 1. The head comes out easily with the exhaust manifold attached. leave it on, save yourself some grief. Having said that now that it is...

One of these 8 glow plugs.....

this isn't an IDI (my previous one was) but you are correct, the head bolts need to be removed in reverse sequence Its been going pretty good so far today - I was getting frustrated with access but finally removed the plastic fender liner. Should have done that first as it gives great access...

One of these 8 glow plugs.....

already done - we've tried for hours. If I had just popped off the head from the start - it would be back together and running by now. But I did come up with an idea for a removal tool that I am going to try to experiment with. Won't help me now because I have already pushed it in, but in...

One of these 8 glow plugs.....

Well....as of right now it is still in there. I decided a few days ago that the head had to come off but I let friends talk me into keeping on trying. We tried everything - eventually dropped the cyl down and knocked the tip in. Then we tried a small magnet through the injector hole(confirmed...

sudden loss of power, where to start

Well....-cuss:mad:-cuss. While using my special tool from HapHazard Cutting & Welding Werks (looks suspiciously like needle nose vice grips welded onto a slide hammer :sly) the centre of the glow plug broke off and came out. I can no longer reach the tip from the outside. I tried hammering a...

One of these 8 glow plugs.....

Well, it is still in there, I've been soaking it and working on it off and on but tonight is do or die. Bought myself a needle point vice grip and made an attachment screw to put my slide hammer onto it. We'll see how that goes. I am a bit worried about pulling the center out of the plug but...

sudden loss of power, where to start

I've got the crank marker turned to 8 o'clock (the offending glowplug is in cyl #3 which if I understand correctly is the 2nd from the front on the passenger side....right?) How exactly close to 8 o'clock does it have to be in order to be sure it is at TDC? there must be a bit of wiggle...

sudden loss of power, where to start

so the tips are attracted to magnets? ;Sweet I have some small rare earth magnets that are super strong and would definitely grab anything that fell in there. When you say that the crank will jam when turning it by hand - you are assuming that the tip has already fallen onto the piston...

One of these 8 glow plugs.....

Thanks Oldbull, that is the plan for tonight - to get that cyl up to TDC before I do anything else. I have a super powerful shop vac (bissell garage pro) and shop air so that sucker is coming out without the head coming off. I didn't check last night - do they have enough steel content to be...

sudden loss of power, where to start

hmmm, I just read it now (thank you) and I could still return the vc gaskets and harnesses as I haven't used them yet (things ground to a halt last night when the only Autolite glow plug left the tip in the head) Not sure what I gain by combining the harnesses though?

One of these 8 glow plugs.....

One of these glow plugs, is not like the other ones One of these glow plugs, doesn't belong. Seven of these glow plugs, are made in Germany One of these glow plugs, was made somewhere else. If you still doubt that Autolite glow plugs really are that bad - look at this picture. 7 German...

sudden loss of power, where to start

Crazy! The cheapest I found for the outside harnesses is k-mansparts.com at $24 each (and I need 2 of them). Even Rockauto is $49 each. both of those options have shipping, border delays, etc, etc. For $113 Can I got a complete Dorman valve cover gasket set with 1 vc gasket, 2 inside...

sudden loss of power, where to start

Sorry my bad, didn't see it in your sig Ha - I now see that I forgot to change my sig when I got the 95:rotflmao I got most of my parts today 2 glow plugs, 2 valve cover gaskets and 2 under valve cover wiring harnesses - total damage was about $336 taxes in (Can) from the International Trucks...

sudden loss of power, where to start

very common problem from what I have found out. But it is the powerstrokes with electronic injectors that have the issue - not the IDI in your 1990. Makes me wish I had never sold my 91 IDI

sudden loss of power, where to start

I found these Dorman valve cover gasket sets online for pretty cheap, and they include 2 pigtails and 2 harnesses for around $60?!? Anyone have experience with them at all? seems pretty cheap to me http://www.dormanproducts.com/p-32744-615-202.aspx

sudden loss of power, where to start

I think I have this figured out, sort of. I popped both valve covers and there is 1 plug on each side that is melted. Each one has an outside wire melted, which is a glow plug. fair enough. But how does this contribute to rough running. The wires and pins going to the injectors seem to be...

sudden loss of power, where to start

update - took a look in the daytime and the passenger side wiring harness closest to the firewall definitely has some burnt up issues. Is this for the glow plugs or the injectors?

sudden loss of power, where to start

I have a 95 F250 powerstroke with 5 spd manual. Totally stock Yesterday after sitting while camping a couple of days, it started up fine like normal and ran fine for about 6 kms of very slow dirt road heading back to the main road. Suddenly I had a major loss of power, engine sounded louder...

4.10's, like 'em or hate em?

I'm going to buck the trend and speak out in favor of the 3:54's I used to have a 91 F250 with 3.54's and I would haul a heavy camper and pull a flatdeck with a Jeep Cherokee on it. I never won any races but I always got there with reasonable mileage. Recently bought a 95 F250 with 4.10's...

what do you guy's think of 4:10's

I just finished swapping the 3.55's from my old 91 IDI to my new 95 powerstroke which had 4.10s (that axle will go back into the 91). I just can't handle the high rpm on the highway with the 4.10s - drives me nuts. I figure if my 91 IDI, ZF5, stock tires could pull my camper and crawler (hit...

    new powerstroke owner

I'll get some pics up soon as I can but it is just a plain jane F250 with rusty fenders and rear wheel wells, but a great powertrain. Things to do (in addition to rebuilding the tcase shifter) are: add the roof visor with led lights (already purchased) install air bags all around - I'm...

    front bumper mounting

Thanks, your description of both series matches with what I see on my trucks. I am surprised at the rather sloppy welding of the brackets on the 95 though, it looks very amateurish. That was one of the things that led me to believe it was custom, but apparently not.

    front bumper mounting

Is the stock front bumper mounting different between 91 and 95 F250's? My new to me 95 PSD has a stock chrome bumper but it seems to be a custom mount as it has some huge well braced tow hooks on there. A friend gave me a winch bumper that came off an F350 (doesn't know the year) and I can...
