Powerstroke 2 IDI no Turbo conversion

When people are blowing up IDI's for fun I usually tell myself it has cavitation real bad and the block is cracked. Makes life a whole lot easier.

Powerstroke 2 IDI no Turbo conversion

I'm not sure of you skill set and how deep you want dive in but if IDI parts are rare/expensive where you're located i'd be tempted to look into a swap of some sort. Question is are you hauling heavy? If not you could get away with a lighter duty diesel engine that has all the perks and...

    Bench seat upholstery

I ended up going with a Carhart bench seat cover. Not insanely great but definitely better then the cheapo sandpaper Amazon Mexican blanket looking ones. Has a flap that folds over if you have the Lariat fold down arm rest.

    Rear main seal replacement

I was able to get my SKF seal installed from the back of the plate and get it flush with a block of wood. I'd definitely want the install tool but if you get creative it can be done without...at least with that thickness seal

DRW to SRW Pros cons discussion

I had to read this to my GF. We were both laughing pretty hard hahaha.

DRW to SRW Pros cons discussion

It's fantastic for the bigger slide in campers that are wide and weight a ton. In the event of a blowout you have something else to catch the vehicle from a very bad scenario. That being said I'd rather have an E rated single wheel tire setup if I was going to offroad it or snow winter...

    Rear main seal replacement

Seems like a thing of the past to me. Gotta use what's available in 2024 to get these old machines working again. Someone in a Rear main seal post said they found just the Navistar seal from a place in Mexico but it was out of the box and had paint maker on it so I couldn't trust that it had...

    Rear main seal replacement

Be aware these engines have been in service for a long time so they sometimes have wear sleeves installed over the crank where the seal rides on. If yours doesn't have one then proceed as usual assuming the crank doesn't have a groove worn in it. If it does and it's bad enough it may be time...

    IDI Newbie

I'd start with the easy stuff like fluids and filters. Diff, transmission, t-case, engine, power steering, brake fluid engine coolant etc. Get coolant test strips to make sure it has the proper amount of SCA's in the coolant. Inspect for all the maintenance that was done or not done. These...

    My bench seat cup holder

That's a great idea and it travels with the seat keeping it at arms reach. I may need to steal this idea. I know Tuffy makes a really beefy cup holder out metal for like $40 that would work perfect for this.

Another good reason to stay out of Calif.

I'd say one day you should go. Definitely bucket list item. While the state is messed up Glamis is pretty awesome if you like the Sand, partying, offroad, Sand drags, SXS's, quads, Dirtbikes, fireworks, etc. Some weekends are very tamed with no crazies, but Halloween, New Years, and...

Another good reason to stay out of Calif.

I go back and forth (SoCal Santa Clarita) for work/racing. It's insane how much the town I grew up in has changed and not in a good way. SO MANY CARS. SO MANY TESLAS. SO MUCH TRAFFIC. Once my job is done I practically race back to Lake Havasu to enjoy no traffic, lower fuel prices, and...

    Keiser's 7.3 + turbo noob build

I absolutely see why people break the turbo pedestal on these factory turbos. They've got to be JUST right for them to all be happy together. Thank you for the kind words. Normally I rush everything and the end results isn't something i'm proud of. While it's not 100% new engine and parts...

    Keiser's 7.3 + turbo noob build

We're getting closer fellas! Rebuilt the turbo with fresh bushings and seals. Took me a hot minute to get the turbo in it's final resting home. Getting the passenger side exhaust manifold, turbo up pipe/slip joint, and turbo pedestal all lined up so they didn't bind was a chore but I...

    Mechanical shutoff

My biggest question is what are they going to charge for this kit? I'm cheap (low budget poor person) but don't mind modifying things. Looks like you'd have to have a new injection pump top cover supplied already modified or you're sold parts to modify your original top cover. I love the idea...

    Keiser's 7.3 + turbo noob build

@Old Goat It was an awesome event with TONS of older trucks. Mostly 60s, 70s, 80s trucks . People from all over the US came from Alaska, Canada, Washington etc. The weather was absolutely beautiful and you could pull you truck right next to the water and even on the beach if you wanted...

    Keiser's 7.3 + turbo noob build

Not sure if anyone from Oilburners will be there but I entered my 1968 Camper special in the Southwest Classic Ford Truck Show here in Lake Havasu AZ. If you're in the neighborhood come say hi! Admission is free and it's 120 trucks deep as of early today. March 22 - 23. All trucks are 96 and...

    Well, Fu-udge.

You remind me of my dad with all these Ford trucks in his yard lol. Is it absolutely American? YES! Is it practical? NO! but it sure is fun! Great buy IMO. 460s aren't terrible when they have an OD. Great buy! Get it running and who knows you could flip it or add to your collection!

    Keiser's 7.3 + turbo noob build

I'm thinking ANYTHING is better than the factory exhaust with that god awful crimped exhaust they did. It's like everywhere in this stock system there is something smashed or very restrictive. From what i've seen they deepen the tone. Big exhaust tips aren't really my thing. I'll be happy...

    Keiser's 7.3 + turbo noob build

Also, opened the turbo oil feed adapter up from 1/8" to 3/16". Just enough to take the shelf off that's normally there. This probably isn't necessary but I just felt that if the factory turbo blocks were stock with 1/4" hole that it cant possibly hurt. Pulled the rocker arm's and pushrods...

    Keiser's 7.3 + turbo noob build

If anyone is interested it's a turbo back straight pipe (ad said catback but pictured the downpipe) kit by OBX racing. I'm sure it's made it China but i'm ball'in on a budget. Comes with a monster 5" tip if you're into that sort of thing. Everything looks Tig welded and nicely polished.

    Keiser's 7.3 + turbo noob build

Decided if i'm going to add a factory turbo to the 7.3 i'm going to make some improvements if easy. Decided to cut the turbo wastegate flange turn down off and weld on a 3" V-band. Also ordered up a full turboback exhaust for a powerstroke 7.3 (94-97) I'm going to adapt the 3" downpipe to the...

    7.3 idi compression test results

I agree, narrow down the easier stuff like @Nero said. CDR cleaning is routine maintenance in my opinion. I usually get some diesel fuel and slosh it around on the inside. Got a lot of black chunks out of it last time. Once it's clean test it by blowing through it. I forget what direction...
