Returning to this thread to spitball some thoughts. Finally got my heads back, valve job with new guides.
Before I start slapping this thing together, I want to return to the fact that I wasn’t getting oil coming out of two pushrods/rockers, and I think this is what ultimately lead to the...
We’ll this thing has a few bit of oil leaks, I’m going to start patching them up while I wait for the compression adapter to arrive and just chip away at this thing until it’s good to go.
Okay so I pulled valve covers. Gonna have to rig up a glow plug adaptor for the comp test. One thing I did notice is smoke coming from what looks to be the pushrod holes, but it could be passing the valves. Another thing is I noticed that two separate pushrods aren’t getting oil coming out of...
Compression leaking into the intake is a thought I had awhile ago. It runs good aside from some occasional low power issues which I attribute to some air intrusion I had been fighting. But once I kill the engine when it’s hot, it’ll let little hisses out almost like pressure is relieving so this...
Got a chuffing/hissing sound coming from the intake. Couple people on Facebook say it’s probably a bad seat. I’ve been driving this thing with that noise for a good while now so I’m curious on next steps and general input. I have a decent head from a previous engine I could probably throw on...
I actually bought this pump and regulator second hand new in box for cheap but it came with no documents, so this just saves me labor and I can take some fittings back to the hardware store for some money back. Fuel gauge is already installed up under the hood until I can get one installed in...
That wouldn’t be bad for the pump? I know we’re talking pretty low psi and I actually debated deadheading it earlier but decided against it cuz I was convinced it wouldn’t be good for the pump.
Hadn’t thought of that. One guy in a FB group said he routed it back to the filler neck right so I was going to go that route but I like the idea of running only a foot or so of line back to the inlet a lot more.
My Holley blue was pushing 13 PSI and through my timing off so bad, I didn’t even want to run the truck lol. It was that rough. I don’t have a timing setup so I can’t time it for 13 PSI, I need to pull down the PSI and I’ll fine tune it once I finally get a timing set up.
I’m putting in a Holley blue, and need to install the regulator. While the regulator routing to the filter head is self explanatory, I’m having some trouble finding a way to route the return from the regulator. I’ve read that teeing into the existing factory return system can cause all sorts of...
I thought I gave an update on this whole debacle but it must not have posted. Hillbilly internet can be hit or miss. I wasn’t able to do any work on the truck this last weekend, worked an 18 hour shift over Friday night into Saturday afternoon and I was recovering from that all weekend lol. I’m...
You can buy/make pop testers online. I’m about to do so. There’s also plenty of write ups on how to tear down, clean and shim your injectors for good pop pressure. If you’re sitting on a stockpile of injectors like I am, it’s good to know how to tinker on them, in my opinion.
I can’t nail down what’s going on with my truck. I’ve got quite a bit of smokiness at throttle, it’s faint and white, you can really see it at night with headlights behind me. I’m also chasing down what I would describe as a ‘soft throttle.’ What I mean by this is, lower power than I feel I...
Never seen or heard of that mod before but the price tag isn’t too bad with a set of glow plugs and their description is convincing. Might not hurt to just pull the trigger and give it a try on your rig.
Got a couple questions:
My trucks a 93, the water in fuel light likes to turn on and stay on even when just starting the truck up for the drive to work or to town. Sometimes it’ll be off and turn on only when the motor gets hot. Thing is, I run a wix 33417 so I don’t know what’s grounding the...
I’m running a 90 on my 6.9, studded. It’s not turbo’d yet and it blows smoke like an 1800s locomotive. I have to baby it so I don’t see higher than 1200 degrees. Gonna turn it down a flat and see where I’m at. If you’re not running studs, Id just go with an 80, imo. I’d rather be getting ‘too...
if you’re wanting to go with Justin but there’s none in stock, I’d definitely reach out to him. I recently spoke with him over email for a few weeks and ordered a RD2-90 from him. Finally went into the truck today and I’ll say he’s earned a permanent customer in me. Truck runs so much better now...
Popped in a RD2-90 pump from Justin into the truck today, let me just say wow. I can’t believe how much I’d tailored my driving to a worn out pump. Way more pull, even NA, the thing scoots like a ***** ape.
Okay so i got everything wired in, looks great. The fuze box will also lead power to my Walbro FRB13 pump (got that for 120$ brand new on a fleabay bid, really happy with that) When I pulled my old motor out, I yanked the AC/Heater box for more under hood space, eventually it’ll get a side...
Okay so just to clarify from everyone’s ideas and info, I run a fuze box from my battery, to the accessories with the continuous relay inline between the battery and fuze box; that relay will be powered from the radio wire.
