Oil Pressure Gauge reading way low

I’ve had this problem for awhile now, even on the previous motor that was in the truck. truck runs fine, I know it’s got oil pressure, but man this gauge bothers the hell out of me. It reads low, like just over the left white line low. It never goes below that, sometimes it’ll go above that, but...

    Oil and coolant mixing

Classic Diesel Designs sells an oil cooler reseal kit. If it ends up being the cooler, I’d recommend resealing before buying a new one. Probably less expensive and the modern quality is no match for back in the day.

Another good reason to stay out of Calif.

Tons of SoCal and Vegas people moving to Utah. My in-laws moved out there about 8 years ago and it’s being slowly overran just like every state in this country. The Morman thing is definitely prevalent but overblown in my opinion. Lots of great people living there.

Another good reason to stay out of Calif.

I agree with this wholeheartedly. I live in the Northern California foothills, gold country. It’s a totally different world here than what you see in Sacramento/Bay Area/SoCal. The demographics of the area are consistent, the crime is lower, the people are friendlier and more neighborly, the...

    7.3 Powerstroke/6.0 Powerstroke Vaccuum Pump

I dealt with this issue just recently. I swapped over a drive from a 87 6.9 to my motor but put a 93 serpentine pulley on it. I beefed with that pulley and drive for hours until I realized, that sucker ain’t going on and the shafts were different sizes, literally a 16th, probably a 32nd of an...

    7.3 Powerstroke/6.0 Powerstroke Vaccuum Pump

For the 6.0 pumps I’ve found, it was for the 04-10 years, and I’ll be damned if it doesn’t Look identical to our pump aside from the pulley and the line coming off of the pod.

    7.3 Powerstroke/6.0 Powerstroke Vaccuum Pump

Anybody used one on one of our IDIs? The mounts look identical, and the pod/pump mechanism looks hardly any different. I read the later pumps put out more vacuum which I can’t imagine is a bad thing, and a 6.0 vacuum pump is cheaper than a junky dorman pos that I’d rather not waste my money on...

Looking to build a custom turbo set up

I know my IP is on its way out, it’s blowing white smoke that gets lesser or greater with timing, so I was already planning on picking up a CDD soon. Thanks for sharing your setup. That 300 is awesome.

Looking to build a custom turbo set up

Summit Racing has aftermarket heaters that have pretty solid ratings. I like my under the hood roomy, so having a reasonably sized heater system I can put in the cab is more attractive to me than the giant AC/heater box they put in these trucks.

Looking to build a custom turbo set up

I’m looking to build my own turbo set up and I’m looking to use a common, easy to maintain and find parts for turbo that won’t blow the heads off my 6.9. It’s got studs but I’m not looking for crazy power, just something to give it the extra mustard. I love these motors, but I can’t risk causing...

Installed Dreg's Garage's brass return caps

Wouldn’t recommend grabbing a set of the rails for the exact same reason stated above. Seriously, they’re a nightmare to install/reinstall, but if you’re stubborn and end up wanting a pair of them, I’ll give you mine for 100$. Reach out if interested.

    o rings?

I’d agree softer might be better but you probably couldn’t go wrong with either.

Our beloved FL1995 oil filter is no longer cheap at Walmart

In case anyone didn’t know, you can get the older FL174s for pretty cheap on rock auto. Gonna pay for shipping but if you buy in bulk, you’d still probably save over buying the same amount of the 1995s.

Update on my good 6.9, pictures and plans for the bad 6.9

Yes it sure was. You all saved me a ton of time by telling me just pull the damn head to see what’s up. And the new motor runs like a healthy locomotive, I’m a happy camper, and I learned a ton. Best case scenario for a blown engine lol.

Update on my good 6.9, pictures and plans for the bad 6.9

For me, it just got to the point where I was chasing leaks and it wasn’t worth it anymore. I got tired of installing, then pulling them off, then reinstalling, then pulling them off. Is what it is. Very nice looking when they are installed though, that’s for sure.

Update on my good 6.9, pictures and plans for the bad 6.9

Back in September I posted about my truck throwing in the towel and after swapping in a very clean 87 6.9 and taking the truck for its first drive where everything is dialed, and then also tearing apart the old motor a little deeper to see what happened, I figured I’d share the results of...

Fuel filter light comes up what could be the cause?

Run some DeiselKleen in your fuel tank. It’s designed to help with the low sulfur diesel fuel were forced to run nowadays.

Motor work. Bent rods, loose lifter,

Well, sounds like I’m tearing it back down to soak those lifters then lol

    Eccentric issues.

Sorry to hijack this thread but wanted to confirm the Holley black pump you’re referring too is Part number: 12-815-1 correct? I’m interested in popping one on to my truck and keeping a mechanical pump and hard lines in the tool box just for emergencies.

Motor work. Bent rods, loose lifter,

Update: Old motor is out. It had a serpentine system so I pulled the accessories and am mounting them to the 87 6.9 to replace the V-belt system that came on it. The 87 motor got its heads, intake manifold and valley pan all washed in a parts washer. Everything looks pretty good when it’s...

Motor work. Bent rods, loose lifter,

My wife bought a brand new 2019 Cherokee with the inline 4 banger in it before we got together. Hasn’t been a bad little car, but I don’t trust it and am just waiting for all of my hesitation with newer cars to prove true when something happens with it when I need it most. Once we buy a house...

Motor work. Bent rods, loose lifter,

Bearings looked fine. I was honestly impressed with how good everything looked. One of those times where you wonder why the hell the truck ended up at a Dismantler/junkyard. The motor had all kinds of extra fuel related stuff on it though. Like an extra fuel filter, weird routing on the return...

Motor work. Bent rods, loose lifter,

Well ****. lol. I’ll see if I can cancel the order and go with Felpro. I was reading VR was the way to go.

Motor work. Bent rods, loose lifter,

I just went with a VR full set off rock auto. Figured I might as well go with tried and true, I’ll probably pick up a CDD set for the old motor, since it’ll be the hobby motor. Thinking I’ll throw it in an old Highboy or something. Let me know how they hold up.

Motor work. Bent rods, loose lifter,

Maybe you’re right, although I was going to have it out on a stand regardless once they delivered it and planned on tearing it apart to see if it needed anything. Might as well know what I’m working with before I put it in the truck. And it had less than 150k on it. Pulled everything apart and...
