I don't know that I'll need one either. But from what I've read on the PSD forums, I'm better off putting it in if I ever plan on towing. Just to keep the EGT's down.
I have a SD turbo setup that I can swap in all at once if I do it. Just need to do it all at once before I start final paint...
Looks like the answer I was looking for. Doing a bullnose clip swap on my 96 psd and wondered if an IC from a 99 SD could be made to fit. Definitely less headaches if I keep to stage 1.5 and don’t need the IC.
Looking for a diesel core support for 1980-1986 body style. Doesn’t have to be perfect, but need it to be repairable. Traveling across country so may be able to pick it up.
Based on power, economy, and a full donor truck popping up for 1k, I went with the OBS PowerStroke. It was too good to pass up considering folks in my region were asking more than that for a long block IDI. Now to strip it down to what I need.
Yeah, that's the risk with any IDI donor. The folks selling the 7.3 claim that they managed the coolant levels to prevent cavitation. No proof to show that they really did so...
I've been reading up on the DT360. Sounds like a great swap, but out of scope for what I'm doing. However, if...
Which one gives better mileage for power?
Price wise the PSD maybe cheaper for me because all I have to do is rent a trailer to haul it home. But long term the PSD will need a rebuild and the IDI are probably good for several years.
I’m running the numbers on different options for a diesel swap to replace the old 460 in my OBS. I’ve got sources for all three. The IDI engines do not have a turbo, but are only about 120-150k miles on them. The 7.3PS has 400k on it. Price wise they are all close.
I see the IDI as...
I saw one listed locally for 500. If you were closer I’d take it off your hands for more than scrap just to start building one up before the one I’m getting decides to go bad. (It’s got 400k on it.)
It’s a 1996 body and frame. Engine is probably a 1999 unless I find a screaming deal on something better. I may have found a 2005-06 6.0 donor, but waiting to hear back. It needs work, but so does the 99 (probably). But maybe I could part out the 99 to pay for the 2005.
This is where I wish the internet could get things sorted out. I’ve read they are they to 96 except leaf spring ones have boxed front frames. But 350’s are thicker than both 250 and 150.
I may not be able to pull of the f150 swap if they are thinner.
Are the pre-1996 F150 frames different than a pre 1996 F250 frame? Other than cross member for the Dana 50 TTB?
I’m planning to pickup a 1994 F150 tomorrow and want to make sure before I pick it up.
Worth a repost.
If I can’t find a 1996-1997 F250 super w/short, then I’m looking for a 1994-1996 F150 donor for frame and cab. Then a 1980-1986 donor for fenders and bed. Then swap in the 1999 PSD and axles.
It sounds like it’s possible, but work to convert either F150 or 2WD F250 over to 4x4 with a solid axle swap. I can get both axles out of the engine donor to keep it the same.
Did you ever do this? I’m debating doing something similar. I like the F150 xcab short bed and I’m having trouble finding an f250 in the same configuration. Then I’d swap in a PSD and axles from a 99 f350.
You’d have to know the guy. Slipping could be nothing but an excuse to buy a new truck. He quit driving it before it ever cost him a delay or a tow. Just parked it and got a new truck. But if it’s slipping I wouldn’t try driving it. Just need it running to cut shipping costs down if it...
No worries about dry cylinders, trickling injectors, HPOP? Or just hope those all work and find out after it cranks?
I talked to him again today. He said that it was running fine when he parked it, but the transmission was starting to slip and he worried it would fail him and he needed it for...
