That makes sense. Heating the oil reduces its viscosity and allows the crud to come out of suspension more easily.
I heated WMO with an repurposed dryer heater element. It worked good, but it may have been too hot. I found I reached a stage where every pass after the first few always had...
Interesting thought experiment. Obviously, the first pass is very effective. Subsequent passes have diminishing returns, but are still effective in removing crud. If you have the time/energy keep doing passes, IMHO.
I have run a little ATF blended in with WMO, and had no problems. ATF and hydraulic oil are generally lighter than WMO, but WMO can really vary. It can range from gear oil to 0W20. Generally, the thinner it is, the less problems you'll have.
I run an extra 2 degrees of timing with my WMO cocktail. Your mileage may vary. :)
WMO works best in a hot engine too. I find coking occurs when cruising lightly loaded.
Having put many thousand miles on my diesels, here is my 2 cents worth:
The IDIs love WMO. You can even advance the timing a little to get more power & economy.
The PowerStrokes with Single Shot injectors will tolerate WMO for a while, but will coke up eventually. Perhaps, if a guy had a...
I jacked the rear end of the truck up until the back of the engine was perpendicular to the ground. The transmission slid in like a dream. This was done single handedly! Having the back of the truck way up gives more room underneath for working too.
I have good news, and bad news...It's doable, but there are many differences. This thread:

documents what I went thru when I put a 2003 PSD in my OBS.
Seems to me, the timing is too retarded. As Mel wrote in one of his IP replacement articles, the diesel rattle of a properly timed new IP and injectors can sound frightening. Your engine sounds pretty subdued. Retarded timing will cause it to smoke, and bog out at higher rpms.
My 6.9 cents...
Black stuff in the fuel filter could be residue from the o-rings on and in the fuel injectors. While this is indicative that the fuel injector o-rings may need replacing, it is usually not a show stopper. i.e. the engine will start running like crap, but still run.
The IPR needs to be...
Trailered my '97 shortbed from my brother's farm near Busby AB to Ashern Manitoba, with Rusty.
The weights on the axles were:
Front 1840 kg 4057 lbs
Rear 1710 kg 3770 lbs
Trailer 4350 kg 9590 lbs
I towed it using my WMO cocktail. :)
Did I mention, I did it without...
