In shopping around for a rebuild kit, I noticed they come in a few different flavors. I've got my turbo off but not disassembled. I've read elsewhere on this site I need a t3/t4 hybrid rebuild kit with a dynamic seal.

When I can use my knuckles in 10 years, I'll thank you tow cat. I've never been more frustrated at a spring in my life... nearly convinced me to swap to disks.

I had no idea the cost of a rebuild could go so high. Seems like you can get the parts relatively inexpensive; but full rebuilds in the range of $700+?
At this point I'd like the test the turbo as is and get some use from it before a rebuild

Well, the turbo kit will be a retrofit for me. Firewall abuse and all! I wanted to get a quote on a turbo rebuild first. Left a message for Mel but haven't heard back yet, have no idea what it costs. I'm also waiting to hear from typ4 on one of his cams while I'm at it.
I'm sure pork_chop got...
I ended up buying an Excalibur crane made in the Carolinas. It's beefy compared to the harbor freight unit. The one I bought doesn't have many markings, but appears to be either the 2 or 4 ton version. It didn't have any problem lifting the motor out of the bed, and didn't appear to strain at...
It's looking like that's the only option for new. I'm debating between new and used. Craigslist has a few options for quite a bit less than the harbor freight unit even. I had also looked at the hitch mounted cranes with legs, which could be more versatile but less capable at 1/2 ton capacity...
I take it you mean the countless miles you've traveled in a row!? I don't usually have any problems as long as it's for a good reason. I hope this trip has ended my search for a turbo kit

Parked the truck back at home! Poor motor had 10 hours straight today. Had a bit of a scare, and contacted a most awesome forum member here who offered to help. I decided to push on, and made it back without too much of an issue though.
The most odd thing about the entire adventure today was...
I did that when I had the leak with the new lines the first time. I spent two days getting all the lines to sit nicely. I removed the IP and made sure that the flare was square when I threaded it into the pump. Tightened everything to the pump, and the reinstalled. I'm probably just going to...
I didn't move any bolts on the IP. Just the ones that mount it. Thanks for the suggestions though.
Olives are less than 60 days old. The leak appears to be coming from the IP connection for cylinder 7. I've established that it's not a return issue causing fuel to leak from the IP at the weep...
Picked my truck up from the shop today. Told them I didn't want the truck back until the fuel leak was fixed. I also wanted it timed if they were able to stop the fuel leaks. So I provided them with two new injection lines (5 and 7) from the ones that were leaking...
They told me that hard...
If I'm not mistaken, a no start while hot is a head/rotor issue?
I know mine was replaced since the truck starts hot now but I didn't ask if it was standard. At times I did the "what if" I had went with a different vendor regarding longevity or price. By that time it was too late though...
Having recently replaced the same parts on my truck with Justin's stock offerings, I'll tell you about my experience.
At first I was spooked with the history lesson I got regarding Justin's reputation. But I have to say that's all history. Every issue I had (even at my own fault) Justin...
So did you have the gear pop out problem? Did it get worse!?
I've got the 3.55 in mine, so I think I'll continue using first.

I've got a 2wd zf5, so no issues with the transfer case. I'm guessing before it's all said and done that I'll be swapping my unit for a different one.

That's probably not a very wise thing to do. Huh??
I guess I'll just drive it the way it is and hope the internals last a while.

Unfortunately any member relatively close is still around 4-6 hours away. I think I'm going to end up dropping the truck off at a shop later this week to fix this fuel leak (cylinder 7 drip at the injector pump) and time the IP correctly. Tomorrow morning is the second alignment appointment, but...
