Not your Average Dana 60 Swap

And some of the other little things I've been chipping away at: I need some steps for the truck; It gained just enough height that it's a pain in the ass to get into. I took my Mom to the local hardware store and had to get a step stool out for her to get in the truck....I've got something in...

Not your Average Dana 60 Swap

Been driving it around for a number of months now, still seems to be working great. But there's always room for improvement, and I've been tweeking things hear and there, so I figured it was time for an update. So before the axle swap, I had 35's on it, and it sat like this: After the...

So what did you do with your truck today?

Been working on swapping in a Saginaw power steering pump. Made an adapter to bolt it on to the stock C2 bracket, got a remote reservoir mounted up, along with a big cooler. Rigged up the stock pressure line to the pump. Got it bled out, cranked the steering wheel to the lock, exploded the...

    Superduty axle swap

These are the only guys I know of that make the parts specifically for swapping 99-04 axles into an older truck. Read somewhere that they are now making the parts to adapt this kit to the older 80-91 frame, but didn't find any of that info on their site...

    Biggest tires '80-'86 F-350 D60?

Thanks, posted this very question in one of my threads and no one ever answered it.... Guess my truck is sitting right at stock Dana 60 ride height. Derail over.

    Biggest tires '80-'86 F-350 D60?

Slant nose wheel openings are wider than the newer trucks, but it appears the height is the same. Dimension from the top of the wheel well up to the body line is the same. Measured on my truck (currently has a 87-97 bed, but also have a spare slant nose bed for future install). FWIW, I had 35's...

Making your own helper spring for front springs, need some input

Back when I had the TTB front, I did exactly what you're thinking; used the bottom spring off a spare set of leaves, cut about 6" off each end, and threw it under the other 2. Made a longer center pin, stock U-bolts were just barely long enough. Raised it about 2" IIRC. Did this at the same time...

No problem. LCAM, I don't plan on using the bags to arbitrarily change the ride height; just to get it back to it's standard ride height once I throw something heavy in the back - like my camper. The camper would squash the older, stiffer leaf springs about 2". The newer, softer springs only...

Not your Average Dana 60 Swap

And now for a minor update: I ditched the stock power steering cooler and instead ran the return line through the transmission cooler built in to the bottom of the radiator. Doesn't work. Apparently, the trans cooler doesn't have enough flow, which results in the return lines building up too...

Not your Average Dana 60 Swap

Yes, stock suspension using the 6000 pound coils (see above post for a more in depth explanation) I have been driving it for about a month now, and haven't noticed any bump steer, death wobble, weird vibrations, etc. Another important tidbit is that I still haven't even bolted the steering...

A little more information. 05-07 axles are typically 3.73 geared. 08+ are typically 3.55. Sometimes 3.31. Ford's attempt at improving fuel economy. F450/550 have steeper gears. Axles with 4.30 or steeper gears are a true "Super 60" with more track width and bigger knuckles/Ujoints...

Another CDR thread (aka argument thread)

You engineers can theorize all you want about your nucleation methods... This thread has my findings on the subject. Also a nice assortment of home brew catch cans. http://www.oilburners.net/forums/showthread.php?67332-RDT-Into-Exhaust/page3

Would a bronco frame be the same as a 2wd half ton?

To each his own... I used to have a 82 F150 that I lowered. My vote definitely goes to the Crown Vic front suspension.

    ATS 088 Thermocouple Thread/Size

Just looked at mine. Same 088 turbo setup as the one pictured. 1/4" NPT is correct.

    New axles front and new

Ride is much less harsh. And I went with some of the stiffer springs - 6000 pound springs - the stiffest that came in a f250/350. I may eventually get some softer springs, and get air bags that fit inside the oil springs. Having the complete chassis will make it way easier.

    New axles front and new

Afaik, the super duty sensor does not work, but the sensor out of your current 10.25 axle bolts right in. In case you missed my thread, the link is in my sig. And if it's just the axles, you're going to need quite a few more parts to pull it off, but it's definitely worth it n the end....

    anyone identify this rearend?

My 84 came with a dana 61, 3.55 posi, left handed lugs on the driver's side, but it was a gasser. A diesel 84 should have came with the dana 70.

    What axle ratio? Poll.

My truck originally had 3.55's: swapped to 4.10's to aid in towing my fifth wheel. IMO, 4.10's and 35" tires are a great compromise between towing power and freeway rpm. Now I've sold off the fifth wheel for a slide in camper, and am back to 3.55's. Great for driving around unloaded, but not...

And now the rear axle. This one was pretty straight forward. Used 99-04 superduty B code leaf springs, and the superduty 4" blocks that came with them. Ne need for the overloads, as I have airbags instead, but you supposedly would want to use the OBS overloads. And FYI, in 2008, they...

I've had really good luck finding stuff on Craig's list. I'm within an hour of all the major cities in Oregon. Most of my best scores come from adds with misspelled words or incomplete info. For example, my $100 wheels/tires (worth probably 3X that) were listed as "Super Dutie Wheels" with no...

As much as I hate to do it, just because I don't really want to know, here's a rough estimate of what it cost me: 08 Axles $600 10 Axle $300 Rear springs, blocks, shock mounts, misc. parts $50 Coil springs $100 Control arms, track bar mount, shocks $100 Spicer flange...

Been a busy weekend... Fixed the pics. Got a chance to take care of a few little things was all - new fuel filter, swapped the speedo gear to the 3.55 version, cleaned up / painted the spare tire carrier. Bled the brakes again. Not sure if there was still air in the system, or I'm just...

Not your Average Dana 60 Swap

As far as the fluid capacity in the power steering system. It's probably about the same; if anything there is now less capacity. The cooling loop on the bottom of the radiator is just a tube run inside the bottom tank, and as near as I can tell, it's just a straight shot from one side of the...
