    Dana 70 or Sterling 10.25?

Did a little research. Disc brake conversions are available for both rear ends; same parts, just different caliper mounting brackets.

is this normal? 7.3 pulling 8k 5th wheel.

When I first got mine running, it would pull my 10k pound 5er a little better than what you describe. You pretty much just matted the throttle and left it there. Put a new IP on it, and it towed significantly better. Then the turbo put it in a whole new world towing ability wise. In the...

    Dana 70 or Sterling 10.25?

A new point has now been brought up; I've seen disc conversions for the Sterling, and wasn't that impressed with the setup. Is there a disc brake conversion for the Dana 70? That could sway my decision.

    Dana 70 or Sterling 10.25?

My truck originally came with a Dana 60.... and a 460/C6. The only piece of the original drive train left is the transfer case, so keeping it factory correct isn't an issue. If it had come with a diesel, it would have had a Dana70. Still not sure why it went caput, but I do remember having the...

    Dana 70 or Sterling 10.25?

About what I suspected. Anybody else manage to blow theirs up?

    Dana 70 or Sterling 10.25?

Made a trip to the coast this past weekend with the 5er in tow; On the way home, it just seemed like it didn't quite have as much power. Then a few miles before I got home I started hearing a nasty gear whine coming from what I thought was the tranny. Got out of the truck and heard what almost...

    DT466 realities...

Kinda hard to see from the pics... Did you get the motor shifted far enough forward that the coolant filter will clear the engine cross member?

    DT466 realities...

There's no easy way to bolt a ZF5 to a DT360 or DT466. FWIW, everything that bolts to the front or back of a DT466 will also bolt onto a DT360 (bellhousing adapter, water pump, harmonic balancer, etc.). The IDI's and DT's all were available bolted to a SAE 2 trans, and used adapters between...

    I second that suggestion.

    Auber Instruments Automobile Gauges?

I've had one for about 2 months now. Bought the kit with the probe for less than $100 shipped. Works perfect. You can also look back at your highest EGT reading by pushing 1 button. And you get a choice of colors. I got the blue display.

    hydro boost help

I used the brake pedal out of an 89 and installed it in the pedal bracket of my 84, so the brake pedals for slantnose/bricknose are interchangeable. From what I read while doing the conversion on mine, the 92-97 pedals don't need to be changed when switching to hydroboost (like Towcat already said).

    BILLET ALUMINUM INJECTOR CAP

How about doing the same test on one of the stock plastic caps to see the amount of expansion/contraction? Not sure what the plastic would do in relation to the aluminum.

    Lost all electrical power

If the fuseable links blew you would be dead in the water until they were replaced. All of the wiring on mine has been modified to some extent but, the power for the fuse block (which sounds like where your problem might be) comes off of the starter solenoid and eventually makes it's way over...

    interior questions

Just make sure to prep the plastic really well before you paint it. Mine has been holding up well for almost 2 years. Only places I've had to touch up are where something actually took a sizable chunk out of the plastic - dang kids...

    interior questions

Mine was red on red when I got it. I didn't like all of the red either. I recovered the headliner and dash pad in black ultra leather, put a new black mat on the floor, got some seat covers from Cabellas, replaced the front door panels with some gray ones, then took out all of the plastic...

    F350 SRW CCLB 4X4

85.5 is when they switched to the Dana 60 front end, and they sat a bit higher. That one looks stock height for a 60. But all of the 85's I've seen had the TTB front end. Mine is a stock height TTB with 35" tires. If you plan on putting an overdrive trans in it, 4.10's wold be a better...

Sticking up for our buddy Travis

Just remember, the people that lash out at others for no good reason really don't like themselves, and resort to putting others down to make themselves feel better. Classic bully behavior. And people are even tougher when they can hide behind a computer screen.

Joined the ranks of the turbo charged

A little update after putting a few miles on her; took a nice 400 mile trip to go camping this Father's day weekend with the 5er in tow. After the turbo went in, I did an initial hour or so of driving the 5er around to check the EGT's, and I could run it right up to 1100 degrees pretty easily...

    Group 31 vs. group 34

It's not much of a lip; only about 1/4". You could probably get away with just setting the group 31 on top of it. I had the battery trays pulled out during an engine swap, so I went ahead and cut 'em.

Swapping seats - will they fit??

I put some aftermarket buckets that I got out of a super cab into the front of my crew cab. They had brackets bolted to the bottom of them so I just made new brackets, but; the front holes were the same, and the rear holes on the super cab brackets were about 1" rear ward of the crew cab...

    Group 31 vs. group 34

On the 83-86 trucks, group 31's fit underneath the hood just fine. Mine has the tall/narrow radiator with AC condenser. Only thing I had to do was hack the lip off of one side of each battery tray (the one towards the center of the truck). I made up a brand new set of cables, so length wasn't...

Possible engine swap south of Sacramento

I have owned a 87 ECLB, a 97 CCSB, and my current CCLB. The turning radius on all of them is pretty much terrible; they all take up 2 parking spots and are a pain in tight quarters. The CCSB didn't turn much tighter then the CCLB (CCSB wheelbase is actually a few inches shorter than a ECLB)...

    $82 for a cdr ?

For me it's not as much the issue of loosing oil out the RDT, it's the smoke screen coming out from under the truck when you're sitting at a stop light. The cost of a new CDR is why I did the RDT conversion in the first place.

    Lucky Mod

I used 7/16" NF bolts in mine. They have "Dorman" on the heads of them. Been holding for about 3 years and towing a 10k pound trailer fairly often.
