    Wire clutter clearing.

To the OP; the only thing that left me stranded on any of my IDI's is when the linkage between the keyed ignition switch and the electrical ignition switch self destructed. Could get the engine fired, but couldn't get the steering wheel unlocked, or power to anything. So one of the first...

Have I missed the Members ride thread or do we need one?

I've been wondering this for a while. It would be nice to have a thread that showed pics of members trucks. But ditch all the BS and commentary that always gets posted after every pic....

    on board air

Antone have experience with converting the stock Ford AC pump to an air compressor? Would be the cheapest way to go for those of us with dysfunctional AC systems.

    Vacuum pump to air compressor

Yeah, I've eyed the ones the tire guys use and their pretty big. It's basically coming down to whether or not I want to have AC. Have all of the parts, just need installed and charged up.

    Vacuum pump to air compressor

I would use it to fill an air tank, which in turn would be used to fill the air bags. On board air would be nice, but I just don't see where I would mount a compressor (a belt driven one). After I get intercooler pipes thrown in there, I don't see much room available; something that fit in the...

    Vacuum pump to air compressor

^^^ this is what I was thinking. I've already done the hydroboost conversion, and was considering using an electric vacuum pump off of a newer Superduty, leaving me thinking about what to do with a now useless belt driven vacuum pump. It was worth a shot. And FWIW, the welding chambers I work...

    Vacuum pump to air compressor

Odd question for anyone that has had one of our vacuum pumps torn down; Is it possible to convert one to an air compressor? Not necessarily enough to run air tools off of, but enough to fill the rear air bags (about 50 psi)?

    E-pump cause hard start?

FWIW, my in dash volt meter shows about the same results. Glow plugs knock the voltage down about 2 volts. My E-pump is on a switch, and it doesn't seem to crank any different with the pump on or off. I'm also running the big rig group 31's.

    bullet proof TTB

What I did to mine: Polyurethane bushings in the leaf spring and pivot bushings XRF ball joints New bearings / races All new spicer U-joints (all 3 of them) Some of this was done before I swapped the front end into my truck (switched to 4.10 gears). Once I got the new one in, the springs...

    front end alignment question

The way the geometry of the TTB works, excessive toe in will actually make the front end ride higher and wear the hell out of the outside of the tires. Learned that after my first failed attempt at aligning the front end myself.

Can only get air through defrost vent or floor vent

I used 2 small hinges, only about 2" long each, and a strip of sheet metal to reinforce the whole mess. I didn't take any pics of it. There is a pretty good right up on it over on FTE, I'll see if I can track it down...

    Aluminum Heads For The IDI

If you had 2 identical pairs of heads, 1 set aluminum, and 1 set cast iron; the cast iron heads would make more power. Heat in the combustion chamber = expansion = power. Aluminum dissipates this heat more than cast iron does, resulting in a slight power loss. The main advantages to aluminum...

Can only get air through defrost vent or floor vent

On the 80-86 trucks with factory AC, the blend door that switches the air from defrost/vents/floor has a habit of breaking the hinges off. Happened to mine. The factory used plastic hinges that break over time. I was able to get to it by removing the glove box and dash pad, and I used some...

Using the stock f150 radiator with idi swap.

Debate over which radiator to use aside; it makes the swap much easier if you pull the core support out of the truck. When I switched from 460 to IDI, I changed out the radiator to the tall skinny IDI rad. I researched the same thing, and came to the conclusion that if you don't tow heavy (I...

    BW1345 and speedometer recalibration

When I swapped from 3.55 to 4.10 gears, I pulled the speedo gear out of the truck with the BW1356 transfer case and put it on the end of the speedo cable on my truck and bolted it right in my truck's current BW1345. The speedo gear that went with the 3.55 gears is dark red and has 16 teeth on...

    easier gauge upgrades?

The 83-86 dashes have a great place to put 4 aftermarket gauges IF your truck doesn't have AC. If you have dash vents on either side of your gauge cluster, that makes things more complicated. Finding a tach for the 83-86 dash is pretty hard; I looked for almost 2 years (I'm also cheap and...

Champion aluminum radiator specifications, including comparison to OEM

The only thing that didn't line up quite right on mine was the holes for the fan shroud. But seeing how the fan shroud is plastic, I just forced in to place. Didn't create any clearance issues like you are experiencing.
