agreed about less stress other than the motor has to crank out more rpm but less load but thats fine they like rpm better than lugging. doing the same ratio swap myself 3.54 to 4.10
rub it in your fingers if its trans fluid it will be slippery if its brake fluid its not very slippery. also give it a smell. either way i would flush the brake fluid.
Yes you'll need a smf clutch kit for a 88-92 7.3 NA motor. the turbo and everything else is bolt up but the flywheel between turbo and NA has different balancing
not a good idea, won't take much to wipe out a tcase doing that. i used to do it in my willys jeep but i would put the tcase in natural from low then put the trans in first and revmatch the tcase into high range but this was a twin stick tcase on a 47 willys. tried it once on my ranger said...
the flywheel or flex plate will not transfer over because of different balancing between factory turbo and NA also you'll need to make a custom turbo oil feed line as the idi-t has 1/4 npt and the idi na has 1/8th npt. otherwise everything will bolt up you'll have to switch to your serp setup
I'm swapping my 83 from 3.54 to 4.10 for towing. Swapping from a t19 to a zf5 do I have overdrive. Swapped from a na 6.9 to a studded rebuilt 7.3 with a non gated rajay turbo kit. Planning on towing around 14,000lb quite a bit it's not going to be my daily driver I chose 4.10 for the pulling power
