    Shag Wagon Revival

My 84 E350 did not come with cruise control. I pulled the stuff of another van. The servo has full vacuum, there is no dump valve. The brake light disingages it. I just replaced mine with this. I have had one on my 65 Mustang for a couple years. The only part in the engine compartment is...

    Shag Wagon Revival

I long ago replaced the whole thing with this. It makes the van much easier to work on. I recently got a deal on several Ford branded that include the water sensor. I never installed a sensor. I have never seen water in it. Scroll to the bottom and go back eight pics. Click the pic to get...

How do you get to the steering box adjustment!

binding? as in, you feel it resisting the torque youre putting on the steering wheel while turning? Yes

How do you get to the steering box adjustment!

how did it fail? I am concerned that I over tighten mine. how do you know its over tightened? It was binding and I could not back it off.

I was wondering what the back pressure should be on 7.3l IDI non-turbo?

How much cold start rattle is normal? I get a lot for a few seconds. Then I get it on acceleration. Then after about a half hour running around town it seems to quit. EGT never seems high during all of this. Timing is about +10 at 2K.

How do you get to the steering box adjustment!

Mine I get with a crows foot socket on a long extension. I have had three rebuilts, all sloppy. I destroyed one in the driveway by over tightening.

    gems from Amazon......

Rant alert! A lot of things on a truck don't want to work when cold. That is why it is supposed to be warmed before driven.

Felt like it lost half the engine

No, they are APDTY, which I had never heard of. They cost half as much as Dorman. I have them, and so far am impressed. We will see how well they work. I have used some Dorman stuff, not a lot. The only issue I recall was early Mustang upper control arm mount bolts I needed to replace...

Felt like it lost half the engine

Yes, we have had that discussion. But on a van that is major surgery, and it will need to get in line. I have ordered gaskets that do not have UVC connectors. I safety wired the current set.

    E4OD Problems

9K#. I was foot on the floor pulling a hill, jawing with my wife, switched out of OD still foot on the floor. Trans down shifted and the converter tried to lock. Grey smoke, loss of forward motion, home on a flat bed. Welded one converter-to-flexplate nut. Blued flex plate at converter...

Fuel tank vent & shower head

I have six vehicles that run. I have gotten rid of all in-tank pumps, shower heads,,,. I have just a piece of hose from the tube to the tank bottom. The hose won't float. Then a filter then a pump. In the case of my PSD I have a second filter after the pump to collect broken pump parts.

Felt like it lost half the engine

I see three lines from the PCM to the IDM - PCM pins 48, 95 and 96. Is the PCM able to sense a fault in the IDM output? If the PCM can disable one bank until reboot, then I have found the latch I have been looking for. I have not so far found any internal info for either box. Breakout boxes...

Felt like it lost half the engine

No change yet. Remember, this is a van. The engine harness connector is above the front edge and center of the engine. After the under valve cover connector issue a couple years ago I removed the engine harness, unwrapped it, and made individual runs from the harness connector to the...

    IP timing

I think maybe I am closer to understanding how timing changes over RPM and load. It does seem to be analogous to a gas engine distributor. Inside the pump assembly is a mechanism that advances the pump as the speed of the pump increases; like the mechanical advance in a distributor. The...

    mechanical fuel pump differences

Ford made the same pump with many different arms. Get the correct arm, which may or may not be what you removed.

    Need some help please

An idea to park that might be useful at some point. Both my diesels have a single filler cap, then a Y pipe to two tanks. So there is only one hole in the side.

    Adding a fuse block?

There is a family of these in various sizes. If you know about "smart fuses", these blocks have the "smart" built into the block so you get smart with standard fuses...

    IP timing

It runs smooth at idle and all RPM and Power points. Power seems acceptable. The only smoke I see is grey, sometimes, under load. If I had not checked timing I might be temped to just call it done. However, I have a Tach-N-Time. The mag pickup and timing light yield the same result. A...

    IP timing

Someone insisted that I advance the IP gear one tooth. That resulted in what I have described as similar to the cackle of a top fuel engine at idle, or, shaking a can with a few BBs in it. It doesn't sound healthy. The IP is now backed down to minimize the rattle. And I don't know if to...

    Fuel pump help

Regarding supply/lift pumps. I believe this pump - linked below - has been there since this van had a 460. That is at least a decade. There is a three way switch that provides for running it when there is oil pressure, all the time, or off. There have been a couple times when I left it in...

    My 460 Build

I have several 460s. The smog motors came with the cam retarded four degrees. There are timing sets that provide for plus or minus four and eight degrees. I have installed them all at plus eight. That is twelve degrees from stock. They all work very well.

    IP timing

What is the deal with line one for F series and line four for E? Did Ford ever put a turbo engine in a van in 1993? This one is in a van. But Ford didn't put it there, I did. And it has the line 4 extension left over from the 1989 van engine. And I acquired a new front cover, but I don't...

    IP timing

Yes, the sensor is on line one. And does anyone seriously think that at 2K RPM the two methods are going to yield the same result when they are eight degrees apart at idle? The question relates to the difference not the absolute numbers. That subject we will get to if I ever get a way to...
