Got embarrassed today by a Toyota

The new imports are great trucks, as you can see. I had a Titan, and had no complaints about it (bought new put 110k miles on it); it did any job I asked of it, which is all I really need in a truck. I lost it when I divorced my wife at the time as it was also her DD. Got the truck in my sig...

I knew it Was Bound To Happen

Sounds like she need to take the bus. I would highly recommend giving her proper driving lessons. Too many people don't know how to properly drive, and just don't know it.

Is a SMF bad for transmission?

SMF does not cause damage or wear to the transmission. The dual is used for noise reduction. Some cars came with DMF or SMF for the same motor, but different applications. Heck, on one of my street cars, I have a single with a solid clutch disc, and it had no transmission wear when I opened...

    my wife says I'm nuts

A vice is nice, but if you have to work on something like a driveshaft, there are other ways to do it. I keep 4x4 pieces of wood around. A couple of those and a several tie down straps will work wonders.

    Lift pump changing fuel mileage

Drag on the motor from the pump. I am always amazed how a little friction can affect efficiencies.

    LUK smf clutch

Yes, but it's not worth my time when I can get it fixed locally. I just wanted to share my experience and fix. The shop had the pressure plate ready to go that same day.

    Mechanic

Any mechanic should be able to install one, its just whether or not they have the equipment to time it. That is what you need to ask.

    LUK smf clutch

Update: the Luk pressure plate was off center; a defect that would not allow full pressure. I took it to a clutch shop that has a table to measure and adjust, and after the pressure was disassembled and adjusted, works fine.

    Im so tired of.....

Don't let others get you to do something that you don't like being done to you. That only makes the problem worse.

    LUK smf clutch

I finally pulled the tranny this weekend, and the disc looks suspect. It was obviously slipping, only about half the disc seemed to be making contact. When you look at the disc on edge, the metal that the friction material is riveted to is bent, much like if was trying to be a spring. I have...

Totaled my truck(pics) What should I do?

The picture of the other vehicle show how strong and safe newer vehicles are. From the pictures I have seen, the idi took more frame damage than the suv.

where to get a 4spd HD clutch?

Which version did you get? My Luk slips badly with about the same as yours. I have Southbend on many of my cars and they are great.

    ebay aluminum radiators

Some simple thermodynamics: slower flow does not equal more heat transfer. Heat transfer is based upon temperature differential, not coolant speed. Higher coolant speed actually promotes heat transfer, as you want the coolant medium to be as low atemperature as possible. The thermostat is...

    Fan Clutch on The Chjeap

What breaks on the stock unit to make it fail and is there a way to fix it? Mine is fine, but I would rather be prepared.

anybody not using lube in the fuel?

I read the 2% biodiesel did best, and I know some stores sell their diesel with 2% bio. Are there any chains that sell that normally, or does it vary be individual store or area?

    SMF clutch slipping

That is some good info. I would much rather give that a try than pull the tranny and buy a new clutch kit.

    Air Conditioning gods needed.

Whenever I convert an r12 system, I always use the fittings that have their own valve stem and remove the r12 ones. The ones that push down on the r12 stems have problems.

    overheating rpm dependent

Installed new ford thermostat. Cooling is now fine. It warms up much quicker, like it should, at stays in the middle of the gauge. The old stat looks really old and had the rubber sheath come apart and part of it was keeping the stat partially open, and likely would not let it fully open.

    SMF clutch slipping

Slave looks fine, disengages clutch, and when engaged, springs look fully compressed. Tranny will come out, and will go from there.

Is the $1k just labor, or everything included? Going to go from dmf to smf?

    SMF clutch slipping

Maybe I am missing something. I replaced the clutch when the dmf failed. The clutch was not slipping, but the flywheel was making noise and was obviously bad when I removed it. At that time, the clutch pedal did not have free play, as in a dead spot with no resistance when it was all the way...

    Air Conditioning gods needed.

That's just silly, just like trying to correct someone when they say dark rather than low light. For all my a/c work, I shoot for 300 psi high at high rpm. It works great, and all my cars blow cold even on very hot days.

    SMF clutch slipping

Pedal comes all the way up and has no free play. I can pull the slave and see if the fork moves. It worth a double check, and I will be working on it later today or tomorrow when I swap the t-stat.
