    IP Adjustment

A leaking line at the nut is sometimes caused when the end is not exactly lined up, the end is like a bullet nose and has to fit exactly straight into the injector or IP, you cannot tighten enough to stop a leak if it's not that way.

    doing heads on 7.3 idi

Those heads weigh 85 lbs. They go in and out at an angle. The bolts close to the fire wall come out with the head. It's doable with the engine in the bay, but way better with it out. If you do it without pulling, when you reinstall the head, get 4 bolts to use as guides. Whatcha got, a 6.9...

    6.9 "Wellness Check"

If your paranoid about that, I'd suggest you get another 6.9 or 7.3 and rebuild it so it's ready to throw in just in case.

    6.9 "Wellness Check"

Unless your sure about the 230,000 miles, I wouldn't think a compression check is necessary, but it's up to you. These engine with the proper oil changes and maintenance will last for a Million miles. The cylinders are well oiled. Any engine can break down at any time for various reasons...

    Picture request-hood release cable routing

Whatever you do, just make sure you connect the cable to the hood release correctly.

Pretty sure I killed the alternator. Just looking for confirmation...

I kinda disagree with that. Just after a start for a few seconds depending on how long the starting was, battery charging will be 14 to 14.5, after that it will settle down to 13.5 to 13.8 depending on the regulator setting, also depends on what RPM your running. IIRC the OEM Alt is only 95...

what is the draw on a solid state GPC?

As laserjock noted above for amperage. If your going to fuse the GPC relay, use a slow blow fuse, a 175 amp will do. Using a circuit breaker, a 150 amp will do. Circuit breakers are slow to trip unless you have a dead short. You have to be careful of what breaker you use. A household breaker...

    IP Adjustment

That is as it should be on a cold engine. I love that sound on my 92. Sounds like you have it timed just right. On your #7 line. Might be a cracked line right at the nut. Really hard to see if it is.

    Coolant temp

The ATF from the Trans. to the Radiator comes directly from the Torque Converter, which is the hottest ATF. The purpose of the ORIFICE going into the Radiator is to restrict the flow so that the TC maintains it full and the pump maintains pressure. In the bottom of the Rad is a two pass loop...

    IP Adjustment

The timing gun is NOT a READOUT. You set the ADVANCE to 8.5*BTDC or whatever DEGREE you want to time the IP at. Then MOVE the IP so the TIMING mark ------ on the DAMPER PULLEY lines up with the 0--- on the TIMING PLATE, then the IP will be timed BTDC to whatever you choose it to be. Set gun at 4...

    Good Deal? 1986 e350 6.9l 4x4

What the hell makes the seller think that's a Camper. There is nothing in the rear for a Camper, like a refrig, some kind of toilet, a bed etc. The rear seat looks like a fold down for a bed, could be a power down, but $12,000 is WAY to much for it. Good God man, there is Class C campers with a...

If you got the kit with two large green and four small black o'rings, that is the correct kit.

    Lots of blue smoke

on the driverside valve cover, is that not a new style CDR? its plumbed into the air intake... Yeah, forgot about that. Pretty hard to get a lot of oil thru it the way there constructed, but could be if the guts where removed.

    Project CrewCab

Looks like a rivet in that last pic cracks. I would grind it smooth, line up the cracks, drill the ends, weld the cracks, grind smooth then scab/weld a 3/16" to 1/4" thick plate over to cover cracks about an inch past the cracks, even drill a hole in the plate at the rivet and fill with weld.

    Lots of blue smoke

I'm a little confused. Your Sig say's it's a 97 7.3 NON TURBO, yet you say you checked the turbo for play. There is no manifold on a 97 that you could take off and leave off, unless your talking about the AIR INTAKE. As far as the fuel in the tank, unless you've drained it and put in fresh...

    1,000 mile new engine disaster

I would compare all the rebuild costs to a Promar remanufactured 7.3 engine. They do not reman any 6.9. That is if the truck chassis is not a rust bucket.

    Dead batteries again

Us old old bastards as were sometimes called, knew about the older batteries that had rubber cases. In order to make them, CARBON Black was used, CARBON is somewhat of a conductor. Got it? Modern day batteries since the use of Plastic for just about everything eliminated that problem.

    Running hot at highway speeds!?

Why don't you just block off the rad with some cardboard, even at idle and see when or if the clutch kicks in at what temp. anywhere from 220*F to 240*F.

    FlexPlate help needed!

The starter ring gear is hardened, the teeth look good in the pic. The diesels only stop in 4 specific places.
