I forgot to post pics. Woops.
On that second one, I tried a screwdriver and some lovetaps to try and get the terminal back in. That didn't work so well, you can see the mark. Oh well. Suggestions for how to deal with that?
I've got some free time off work, so for the next day or two I'll be going through my to-do list. I thought I'd make this thread so I can keep any rookie questions I have all in one place.
My agenda:
- Get the batteries recharged
- Put on new negative cables
- Replace the fuel heater o-rings
-...
Today I tried and failed to get the old beast fired up. I let it sit for most of the month so the batteries were drained. I jumped it a few days ago and it came to life, but I didn't get the batteries charged so they died again. Jumped it today, it fired up, ran for ~5 seconds, then shut off...
Everything is back together, and... MY HEAT WORKS!! :D
The cable is trash, so that's disconnected right now untill I get another. But all I gotta do is reach behind the glove box to adjust the heat, so no big deal.
Thank you all so much for your help. I won't say it was "easy", working under...
That's an interesting idea. I wonder if that was a present from the factory LOL
The blend door moves freely, so that was definitely the problem. Now I'm putting everything back together. Anyone know where this connector goes? It was a casualty when I pulled the heater box cover off, and for the...
Alrighty guys, sorry for not updating here, between getting sick and all the holiday bs I haven't had the time or motivation to work on the truck. But now I'm back at it, so let's dig in :D
I just removed the heater core. I started feeling around, I think I found the culprit. This was behind...
97 was the first year of the 10th gen F-150's, but the F-250 and 350 were still the old body style. Ford really knows how to make things confusing for the parts counter LOL
I can't help with the knock, but those brakes sound pretty normal to me. If you can get the fronts to lock up, then they should be working as well as they're going to. The vacuum brakes on these trucks are just really bad, the only cure for that I know is the hydroboost swap.
I haven't lubed anything up yet, this is my first time being this deep in the dash. I'll definitely do that while I'm in there, it never hurts.
I'll pull the heater core and see what I can see. I might not be able to get to it tomorrow, my brother got in a fender bender so I'm playing junkyard...
The truck is a '92 with factory AC. I wouldn't be surprised if the cable is stretched, the temperature knob used to be easy to turn but it started getting stiffer and stiffer until the day it got to the point that gorilla-force was required. I heard a "clunk" in the dash, and the heat never...
Here's a video for you guys, maybe you'll be able to see what's going on. I get the feeling that I'm going to have to remove the heater core itself to get any further, am I right?
Alrighty. I'm inside the dash, i have the heater box cover mostly off (its out of the way, but the clip holding the cable to it refuses to be pried off so I'm ignoring that). I see the heater core, and the arm that the cable attaches to. When I reach in and move the blend door arm, I don't see...
I thought the blend door was further inside the dash. I've pulled the glove box before and I see where the cable attaches to, but I never took the heater cover off to look deeper. If it's seriously that easy, I'll dive in tomorrow as soon as I can. I'll be happy to look stupid if it means my...
Heya fellas. I have a crappy job I need done on my truck, and I don't have the skills or nuts to do it myself. It may sting the ego a bit, but if I touch it everything will go to hell LOL
I need my HVAC fixed and my alarm system removed. This, I assume, requires removing the dashboard, and...
New tach sensor is installed. I'm not 100% sure that was the culprit now though. When the GP's are doing their afterglow, the tach is slow to come off idle when you blip the throttle. The last one was doing that too, but that one day it was also reading 0 RPM until the engine crossed ~800-1k...
I ordered a new tachometer sender today. Started the truck up this morning, spent 5 minutes wiping all the condensation off the windshield, then went to put it in drive and i noticed the tach was dead. Gave it some throttle and it started reading, but at idle it would read zero. Had to drive the...
Was it behaving like this?
That was a 26*F morning. I still don't know for sure what caused that, or the weirdness starting @ the 35 second mark in where it was smooth at ~600rpm but missing at ~750rpm. Like yours, it smoothed out after about a minute and a half. I started cycling the glow...
If they're the correct Motorcraft / Beru plugs, you will probably be ok. If someone has changed the plugs before and put in Autolite or anything else, you're probably not going to have a fun afternoon.
Go slow, don't be shy with the penetrating oil, and don't use anything other than Motorcraft...
I didn't get my truck so much for the IDI, but because this truck in particular was always a dream truck to me. The PO of my truck is a friend and coworker of my dad, I've known him since I was 5 years old. I always LOVED his truck, it looked super cool with the two-tone blue and the black light...
The block is holding a lot of the coolant. There are some block plugs you can remove that'll drain most of it out, one by the starter and one by the oil cooler according to this quick and lazy Google search. I can't give advice on flushing because I don't do it right myself, I just drain the...
Regarding customer service, when I first e-mailed Justin to place my order, I didn't get a response. Mailed him again a week later and this time I got a response within about 2 days. But, once the parts were in my truck and we ran in to problems, I e-mailed him again and this time I had a...
I wasn't expecting to hear that, what do you see that makes you think the exhaust manifold gasket is leaking? I would think there would be soot around the area and you'd be able to hear an exhaust leak.
Thanks for the input guys. I kinda figured it was just the valve cover and the HG was a longshot, but it never hurts to get a second opinion :)
I've read about the passenger side valve cover gaskets being a PITA to do. I think I'll be learning some new four letter words pretty soon.
That makes...
