    Noisy alternator

It's possible the pulley got wetter than I thought, but I've gotten it wet before and never had it make that kind of noise. I just fired it back up and the screech isn't there, but there is a chirpy bird hiding somewhere near the alternator. I'm gonna drive it to work tomorrow and see what...

    Noisy alternator

Nope, the only big mess was around the vacuum can where I cut the heater hose. The area behind the water pump pulley got a bit wet when I pulled the hose off the pump, but that was it.

    Noisy alternator

So I was working on the truck today and trying to put a bypass valve in the heater line. That failed miserably (the fittings leaked, no vice so I could only hand tighten the fittings), so I bought some new hose, put it in, and thought I was done. I fired it up to check for leaks, and that's when...

SF Bay Area memorial day weekend GTG. 2018

Screw the Pebble Beach Concourse, this is the show to be at :D

So what did you do with your truck today?

Got the truck ready for its road trip tomorrow. I haven't had time to work on the truck lately, so the oil had 6K miles on it and needed to be changed. The oil level was still in the normal range according to the dipstick, so that's 6K miles on conventional Rotella without adding a quart...

SF Bay Area memorial day weekend GTG. 2018

I'll be there, just need to know for sure what date we're doing this and what time I should show up. If there's a BBQ available I'll bring the sausage :D

how to go on with my E4OD

I have the Racer X seal in mine and so far it's been flawless, but when I replaced the seal I also had their beefiest torque converter put in along with a big cooler. I don't know exactly how much better it is than the viton seals, from what I read it's supposed to handle heat better but I don't...

how to go on with my E4OD

If it's the front pump seal that's leaking, you can order a better-than-OEM seal here. And if you don't have one already, put a beefy transmission cooler on your truck because these E4OD's just love to melt down. I have no advice for pulling the transmission though. When my seal blew, I took...

What's a good lower radiator hose?

I got mine locally from O'Reilly's, Gates part # 21405. The first one they gave me didn't have the spring / flap / whatever inside it, but the second one did. Make sure it has that or else very bad things will happen.

Water pump gasket using RTV or other sealant?

Like this? :D Started with a wire wheel, from there I hosed it down with brake-kleen. Then I broke out the coffee filters and rubbing alcohol and kept scrubbing until the filters came back clean, same method I use for cleaning computer CPU's and heatsinks. It's not overkill if it works ;)

    Universal trans cooler?

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00803CTDA/ I put this in my truck after my E4DOA had its mountaintop meltdown, bypassing the radiator entirely and I'm not using the regulator thing they included. I still haven't put a gauge in, but it's been a few years and my transmission hasn't exploded...

Water pump gasket using RTV or other sealant?

I don't know if you can do away with the water pump gasket entirely. When I did my water pump, I used the gasket it came with and Aviation Form-A-Gasket on both sides of the water pump gasket, plus grey RTV on the 4 special bolts. Been almost a year now and still no leaks.

First impression towing with 6.9 NA

Is your truck 2WD or 4WD? If you're 2WD, it wouldn't be hard for you to find a used 4.10 rear axle and swap it in, that would probably be the most gain for the least money for you. Your engine probably could use a good tune-up too, but the 3.55 gearing isn't helping your NA slug very much. I...

    return fuel line kit

The classic sign of air intrusion is when you start the truck, it'll run for a few seconds, them stumble and die. Once it dies, it'll take a ton of cranking to bring it back to life because the system needs to be primed, but eventually it'll fire back up, albeit with some stumbling until the...

    Urgent inner tie rod question

I'm guessing, but it looks to me like the thick bushing goes inside the metal piece, then that assembly goes inside the rubber boot, then on to the purple tie rod. EDIT: Actually, looking at it again, the order might be metal piece on to purple tie rod, thick bushing over that, then rubber boot...

    return fuel line kit

Here you go. The standard return line kit is what you need. You can also get the exact same kit from typ4 / Russ, probably for a better price. I originally used a kit from O'Reilly's when I had my IP and injectors replaced, but my IP didn't want to run out of the box so some "extra steps" had to...

    Typical Oil Consumption?

My IDI has no problems running Rotella, only used about a quart every 3k. But mine seems to be the exception to the rule, i have no idea why so many IDI's love to drink it up.

    Typical Oil Consumption?

That sounds about right for oil consumption. For some reason mine will always guzzle 1qt right away (and if you try and keep that 1qt in there, you'll go broke in a week), but after that it's about the same as yours, ~1qt every 3k miles. I change my oil every 3k anyways, so it works out fine...

    Mysterious Starter Behavior

Here's a pic for you from when I was replacing my relay. You can see the old vs the new (ignore the second small terminal on the new one, it's not used on diesels and Ford only sells one-size-fits-all replacements), and the two big wires and the small wire on the elbow connector.

    Mysterious Starter Behavior

The other way to do it would be to start the truck with the key, then pop the hood and pull the small wire off the relay. No sparks that way :D The small wire on the fender relay is the trigger wire that comes from your ignition switch. If you pull that wire off and your starter is still...

6.4 Liter front bumper retrofit on 1993 F350

I can't find a picture of it, but I have seen one person with a front-mounted receiver hitch behind their license plate on a late-model OBS bumper, but it requires some cutting of the bumper. Tow hooks are the problem, the only ones I've seen go underneath the bumper and I have no idea how they...

6.4 Liter front bumper retrofit on 1993 F350

I found a couple of videos on this swap, one on an F-150 and one on an F-350. The more I look at it the more I want to do it, I absolutely hate the thought of cutting my frame but at least I'd get front tow hooks out of the deal.

BB Code VS G code Injectors

Anyone know anything about the D code injectors? I'm really curious what I'm sitting on now. All I know about them is they're black, supposedly new, and came in Stanadyne boxes.

BB Code VS G code Injectors

I ordered a set of "new" injectors off Ebay and I got 8 Stanadyne boxes with black D code injectors inside. I've never heard of D-code injectors before, but I'm gonna have them tested and adjusted (if needed) before I put them in. I didn't have my R&D injectors independently tested before they...
