Toot away!
It's unbelievable how different the forests are up here. A lot more greenery everywhere. Our forests are nice, but definitely high-desert and not as lush. It's kinda hard to head back south...
First time I've seen a running steam tractor too. Pretty neat to watch the guys keep it running. All of these tractors made a lap during the parade. Not just pretty paint jobs.
Well we made it as far north as Whitefish where we stayed with some friends for a few days. They showed us around and on Saturday we attended the Northwest Antique Power Association show. Not many pics of the old IDI because she just chugged along happily.
Oldest International motor...
Awesome.
My plan is to move the turbo outlet temp sensor to read coolant temp after this experiment. Definitely good advise as the stock coolant gauge was one of my bigger worries.
Just before we left on our trip I tried to install the Edge EAS gauge expander so I could have EGT, ambient, boost, turbo outlet temp and post-ic temperature gauges.
For some reason I could not get them to all work.
The technical support folks at Edge are sending me a new expander after I get...
It's a pretty perfect fit. The holes in the back lip of the stock bumper even line up to not it up to. I can put a tape measure on it if your interested.
I do not have head studs yet. Boost peaked at 10.2psi before the IC install. Now runs 8.5-9 max.
I didn't really do an install thread. Just posted some pics on Goose's thread.
I'll try to put something better together when I have time. This was a beta test. I'd like to improve it a little by...
One of the biggest surprises about the intercooler addition was how well the truck now pulls from 1700-1900 RPM. The cooler charge must give it some extra oomph. On level and slightly downhill sections 5th gear and 70 mph was easy to do. This truck has 3.55 gears.
So I always hear people talking about how heavy their truck was loaded. To remove all doubt I decided to hit the Cat scale in Missoula.
Just over 20k gross.
The pass from North Fork Idaho over into Darby Montana was done with an ambient temperature of 97F. This did slow us down on the long curvy climb into Montana. A newer Ford with a lighter 5'er pulled passed us, but we were only a few hundred yards behind him by the time we got the top. My turbo...
After a few days playing around the Snake River area. (Visiting Shoshone Falls, Box Canyon Springs, and Hagerman area) we headed up through Sun Valley and over Galena Pass into the Sawtooth Wilderness.
The dogs love swimming in pristine mountain lakes.
Going over the pass we had the bad...
It was 98F as we pulled north over Rattlesnake Pass into Idaho. It was the first big test of the truck and the new IC. The pass slowed us way down, but the IC kept us in the game. No way would we have made it without it. The last bit was 39mph and the temp gauge was almost to the edge of normal...
I posted a while back in the what did you do with your truck today thread about installing my intercooler.
Also added some gauges to watch my temps. This screen shot was from a video I made pulling some hills right after the install. Figured out I had a small boost leak and fixed it up.

New IC. Went water/air again, but tried my best to keep the stock fresh air intake. Worked out pretty good. First time I've welded aluminum in years so please don't be too harsh. Even built a crimping tool to keep the boots on guttentight.
Sorting thing out:
Water IC fits...
I have not tackled mine yet, but I've heard of guys just resoldering the board and having it work.
Maybe some type of cold junction issue??
I really don't know.
Big test today. Headwinds plus a small pass.
Definitely need an intercooler. Was having to back off at 1150 over the pass. Pulls pretty good otherwise.
