I'm due for a 3" downpipe on my '94, so tell you're wife "Thanks"!
Post up some photos when you can. Did they modify the cobra neck from 2.5" stock too? Or did you already have that part?
I think you may want to do a compression test. Maybe even get a combustion gas leak test kit and see if your pushing past the head gasket into a coolant passage or if it is cylinder to cylinder.
The should cost little to nothing and get you a baseline idea about what the motor needs. You seem...
Well, ignore the previous post...
I was out looking under the hood and found a pretty good boost leak where a boot rubbed against the fuel support. So I guess those numbers are meaningless and explain why my boost sensor has seemed flaky.
A little more testing yesterday with the trailer in tow. Glare was bad as I was driving out of a rainstorm and into the sun.
This was pulling a small grade at about 65 mph.
I came to a steep pull that I should have cruised right up, but traffic starts slamming on the brakes for a guy...
I'm sure no expert, but your fuel system seems like the place to start. Change the fuel filter, maybe open up the old one and see if there is any evidence of pluggage. If the truck sat that much it may have had some chunky fuel in it.
These are known for having issues with the in-tank pickup...
I've been running a set of Vision wheels in 19.5 with some 225's that were bought used and regrooved/re-siped.
They are stable and capable of carrying near dually loads. Great for when we are loaded for bear.
Downsides are:
1. Heavier tires take more energy to accelerate and stop.
2. The...
Dang. Sorry to hear about this.
I've got a few parts stashed in the shop if you come up against something hard to find shoot me a pm. No spare 7.3s unfortunately.
The boost gauge was not working for the trip. It had worked prior to this and I could hit just over 10psi. Wastegate is wired closed.
The downpipe and turbo are Ford OEM originals. (modified ATS design I've heard??)
Just took it for a test drive. Without the trailer I really could not get the...
FYI for those curious about the CTS2 setup for these old trucks.
When you connect it for the first time it gives you a list of manufacturers to choose from. Scroll to the very bottom to get the 12v option:
It will then ask if you are sure you want EAS only:
It then looks for all the...
I struggle with that. I want the 4.10s when towing, but love being able to cruise with traffic in the areas where 80mph is the speed limit and I'm just carrying a couple dirtbikes.
Yes, you just have to use the 12volt accessory harness instead of the obd2 harness
Not sure why they say it only goes down to '94. Probably only supports OBD trucks down to '94.
One more thing I forgot to add: This '94 still has the necked down 2.5" turbo outlet and downpipe.
I wonder how much the upgraded 3" downpipe would help?
A pic of the gauges going over Lost Trail Pass...
The phone shows GPS speedo at 30 mph.
The turbo outlet temp is 302F!!
Ambient was getting hot air from the radiator at speed under about 35-40. So it shows too high. It was actually around 67F before we got to the slow part. Lots of 25mph...
OK. I wanted post a few thoughts that may or may not be interesting/relevant.
The truck overall did better than I expected. It's not a quick accelerator, but once up to speed it tugs along just fine. Much of the interstate we ran 70mph at 2000 rpm in 5th gear, downshifting as needed on steeper...
On a lighter note, we actually had to pass this group of motorcycles with sidecars. They seemed to be limited to about 50mph. This one is a KTM 1290 pulling a tent trailer.
Lots of cars cutting us off on the highway today. We did ok, but this guy wasn't as fortunate. Prayers that everyone survived ok.
EMTs don't get paid enough...
I like it. The thing has been flawless right up until I tried to add a second EAS adapter. The EGT gauge is Rock solid.
I hurriedly tried to add the extra gauges for this trip and ran out of time to troubleshoot. Tech support wants to send me a new EAS expander. I asked them to wait until I was...
