Don’t want to rain on your party, just keep in mind that a number of us found that the Facet, though reliable, does not provide enough fuel volume to keep steady pressure under high load. For me it failed on a stock 6.9 and on my turbo’d 7.3 with Moose Jr injection pump. I currently have 2 Facet...
I have seen somewhere kits that have just the potentiometer board and wiper. I have done this with used parts once and with a near free new sender I robbed the parts from another time. Great idea since the rest (except the showerhead) doesn’t go bad. I have the part numbers for oring to reseal...
If anyone is looking for a timing set up there is a Mac ET18DPM going for $100 0 bids. I have one, basically a Snap On MT257 in a different box. Need a dial back timing light to go with it...I also did not verify the correct clamp is there.
Good info there...
I use Permatex Rightstuff as an adhesive a lot. It is the best gasket sealer and a far better adhesive than silicone.
3M makes some awesome stuff too. I have used some that is activated by the moisture in the air
I wish it were true but I just looked at my 91 short pinion spline and 96 long pinion spline and both have straps. Visually the short is 3/4 inch from the shortest point to the seal guard and the long is 1 1/2 so comparing the two you can see the length.
Been there done that! Left truck running with the defroster on while I fed the horses. Came back to a cab full of smoke. Frantically pulled out the resistor and put out the smoldering leaves and acorn hulls.
Every one of the 80-97 pickups I’ve pulled the evaporator out of was unbelievably gross...
More and more parts vendors are adding disclaimers similar to this. The EPA and CARB have been rattling their sabers, mostly due to idiots deleting the emissions equipment and blowing smoke in new trucks. Vendors are afraid of fines that could put them out of business so a better safe than sorry...
The VSS is not a for sure way to know, my 91 had a short pinion and vss. I’m really testing it out now, I swapped axles with my 96 so now the short pinion is behind the 460 hp 1000 ft lb Powerstroke!
DB let me down on my Powerstroke. It was great for about a year then started cranking slower and slower. Took the DB to the electrical rebuilder I was using for my fleet work. He went through it for me, he indicated all of the bearings had failed because they were very poor quality. Genuine ND...
Looks like I don’t have a crisis, a fairly new battery has failed open so it was mimicking a draggy starter. Sounds better but still thinking maybe a little off.
There have been a lot of upgraded starters come out in the Diesel PU market in the past few years but I don’t recall one for the IDI. Has anyone came across a new starter or upgraded starter?
Had poor results from Chinese knockoffs and most rebuilds except local rebuilders.
One thing for sure it does increase noise. The soup bowl is there to dampen intake pulses (noise). As to performance/ mileage increases.... not a lot especially on a truck that is being driven conservatively to maximize mileage.
Sometimes bolts screwed into aluminum need a “shock” to break loose. I like to use a drift punch, hopefully brass, to smack the bolt head good and hard like I was trying to break it off. One or two sharp hits not a lot of pecks......
My experience with the Duralift is mixed. Reliable. Easy priming. Solves a lot of issues with getting air purged after running out, changing filter etc. The down side for me was not enough volume to maintain pressure during high demand. I have a turbo and turned up pump and tow. It took 2...
Here is an idea for fuel lines as easy as PEX but proven on big rigs: nylon air brake tubing. Used all the time..... fittings readily available (compression type). 3/8, 1/2, 5/8 all sized by o.d. Just like the copper tubing in rolls it replaced. Nylon fuel lines on fuel injected cars as well as...
I’m impressed with your work to hand dress flat surfaces.
I learned from an old master mechanic who did many similar things. I don’t assemble anything without at least running a file over the mating surfaces...amazing how many times I find burrs and high spots.
With 425 and 360 lbs compression (pretty typical) and not enough blow by to blow the oil filler cap off if set over the hole upside down I would think it is at least worth a little diagnostic time before pulling it.
