Gear swap in 10.25 Sterling Axle

Russ I do have a lathe and access to big lathes at work. So turning that shouldn't be a problem. Is that the Ratech 4105 shim kit? They list it for a 10.25 so seems crazy it needs lathe work still. Good to know though. I'll get one coming. Any particular gear charts you like to reference for...

Gear swap in 10.25 Sterling Axle

I've looked and haven't been able to find any specific threads regarding gear swaps. I've never played with gears in a reared before. I'm not doing it anytime soon. This thread will be here to basically collect data for now and document my experiences once I get into it. I'm sick of the 3.55...

    what is going on????

Before I thought head gaskets I'd wonder if that crack opened back up and it was just low on water and got hot. How low is the crack on the radiator? I'd fill it up with water and run it with no radiator cap and see how it goes. Then i'd probably put a radiator in it and see how it goes.

    Check your Nuts!!

I normally run lug nuts on with my air gun at the lowest setting. Try to make sure the wheels tight on the hub. Then when everything down on the ground I torque them. I normally try to make sure the torque wrench moves the lug a little bit before going tight. No one else has touched this...

    Check your Nuts!!

Walking by the drivers rear tire on the crew cab the other night and noticed a loose lug nut. Then noticed all of them were loose. No clue how long they've been loose, but glad I caught it when I did. So check your Nuts! I'll be putting on new wheels studs and a different wheel. Oh and checking...

No Tach...My rig let me down

Gary not sure on the ground location but I'd check at the firewall on the drivers side. Then behind drivers headlight and drivers fender for ground locations. This seems like a bad ground to me. But I've not had an e40d in my truck for many years.

Scrap a cab and/or a frame with no title?

Yeah some saws all action can save a lot of hassle. Place I use lets me get a dumpster. I've put whole cars in there. Never a question. I can normally get 3-4 ton of car body type stuff in a dumpster.

    Project Big Red

Windshield mouldings just take a special tool to release the clip. Easy Peasy. My tool looks like the one on the right. Works fine. No issues. You just run it around between the moulding and the glass until a corner catches a clip. Rock it until the corner lifts the clip slightly and releases...

Yeah wire wheels are my friend until they start throwing wires. Then you better have your safety glasses on. Looking good. Crazy how long some of that "small" stuff take. Looking good. - Jeremy

i need a new down pipe for a 94 idi

http://www.idiperformance.com/store/p36/93%2F94_Factory_Turbo_IDIT_3%22_Downpipe_upgrade.html This is what R&D sells. It comes with a modified Exhaust housing outlet and the modified powerstroke downpipe. You'd also need the lower downpipe which he sells also for 55 bucks. I myself bought...

i need a new down pipe for a 94 idi

Banks made a dow pipe for the factory ford/ats turbo. They might still sell it. Otherwise you can use an aftermarket powerstroke down pipe but you need to make it work with the turbo. I personally would modify the turbo exhaust housing to take a 3" band clamp. Could maybe adapt the powerstroke...

N/A 7.3 Lack of Power? Bad Timing, Worn IP?

Timing can make a big difference though. So I would make sure the pump is timed correctly first before replacing it. Also I'd run a bunch of diesel Kleen or Standadyne fuel injector cleaner through the fuel system. Not saying it will be like new, but may improve it a lot. With unknown fuel...

I'd use a gasket. I'm not a big fan of silicone if a gasket is available and recommended.

    Pan torque?

First off there shouldn't be a gasket. Just grey rtv. If it's in the truck then no big deal. I've started torquing things like valve covers and pans. I don't trust myself on them anymore. They seem tighter than I would have thought.

    getting the sludge out.

Guy at the Coop I worked at would put a gallon of diesel in his old ford 360 and idle it for like 5-10 minutes. Then drain it and do an oil change. He said they did it in the service all the time. IDK, but might be worth it. I'd be more worried about water sitting in there right now pitting...

    Wipers quit working this morning

I was going to guess it's a switch issue since it seemed to act up one you tried to do the washer fluid. I'd giggle the switch a bunch and see if the wipers act up or start working again. My 93 wipers act up frequently and don't work on delay. I believe for me it's a dirty Multifunction switch...

Looking good man. A crewcab might have been easier, but I don't think it would have been less work. Maybe if you'd have gotten the crewcab center pillars and a foot either side of them would have been easier, but you made it look easy. What front clip you planning to run? Gonna keep it 81-86...

What rpm to pull hills ?

Have you checked timing? My 89 was smoking more than I liked then I turned the pump down to around 7-8 degrees vs 10-11 it was previously set at. i was surprised that little difference in timing made that big of a difference in smoke. I ran my truck the same way when it was n/a also. Kept the...
