Classic Diesel Designs is now on Facebook

darn right, nothing is really "free", if you are not paying cash for it they are making money in another way. it seems like every other day you see more fall out on how much facebook was data mining or allowing others to do so without permission. it is to bad, i miss being able to easily keep...

    Project Rewbrooks

since my friend broke my hood pull (actually ripped the cable out while i was deployed lol) i was able to reach in under my hood and bend the cover of the hood latch assembly so i could fit my fingers in and pop it by hand. you have to really reach in but i like it better now. i didnt even fix...

    Project CrewCab

thanks for the update, i am really curious to see if you get the steering angles worked out. i know a guy who scraps vehicles and have thought about trying to squeeze some SD axles under. i go back and forth on if the ride improvement would be worth it.

Jill was thinking of splitting it up Friday to Saturday. I would just like to shot gun it down Saturday. We will see, traveling together makes things a little better though.

nice, i am not sure how much load is on that mount but it might not be a bad idea to add a triangle or something to help triangulate the mount sort of like this. love seeing the progress!

    Front Driveline Angle question...

if it is not a CV joint. if he is going CV joint then the front axle pinion should shoot straight at the transfercase. your drive line angles do not sound extreme at all. are you sure you don't want to just run it and when you need 4x4 you get some drive line noise. as long as it is not...

New member here, with some odd stuff

i would love to have an old boxy Jeep like that with a diesel engine! i cant imagine there are to many of them around. how are they to get parts for?

    boost related ticking?

real hard to pin point over the web but Brian might be onto something. could an accessory belts be bumping a bracket or anything if the motor mounts are under load?

    50psi hose for return lines?

pressure should be below 1 psi on the return system, if it gets higher it can cause timing issues. so yes, like mentioned, you just need diesel rated line like you have and you should be good to go.

    The buckin bronco project

that is a great strong engine/drive line combo. the 300 might not be a speed demon but yes like you said, they are torque and just keep running.

that is cool, do you think you have the adapter flat enough to keep the alignment? should be a very cool daily driver. i am also amazed you found an old dodge like that that is not rotted to Swiss cheese!

Brownie box. Can anyone tell by looking at this if it’s the box with overdrive? No data tag.

might be better off just putting an overdrive in if that is what you are after, those old boxes are around but seem super hard to find.

    The buckin bronco project

i had a 78 bronco for a while, had a 351 and was actually stick shift. i really liked that truck. what engine transmission combo is yours? change that oil and see how it does, if you have gas in the oil i would be taking a good look at the fuel pump. the diaphragm might have failed inside it.

What am I even doing sometimes

hey it is all part of the learning curve sometimes working on anything. it is what separates a specialist from a general mechanic. they learn all the ins and outs of those little things that make the difference!

whats your thoughts on these heads?

these engines seem pretty sensitive to valve depth, i am not sure it looks like it has enough material to clean up the seat properly and keep a decent valve depth.

    Project "flapdoodle" (95 XJ)

nothing scientifical about it lol i just remember driving a friends old square headlight Jeep with a 4.0 back when it was new. yeah i am dating myself a bit but i noticed it seemed to stumble a bit. not much but you could notice. i was sort of sensitive to it because i was having trouble getting...

    Project "flapdoodle" (95 XJ)

sounds like a healthy 4.0, i thought the overall engine design gave them a slight stumble at idle if you listen close. nothing wrong with the engine, that is just how they run.

Squealing under hood when wheels turned all the way left

fill that thing up! are you sure you don't have a leak? then start your engine, run a few seconds, shut down and check it again. do this until it is full. having low fluid and air in the system will make it act weird, fill it up and run it a few miles before you start trouble shooting. having...

Squealing under hood when wheels turned all the way left

the vacuum system and steering system are 2 separate set ups. one works in "vacuum" and the other runs in the 1500 psi range on the high side. when you turn your wheel all the way to the locked left or right position the pump cant pump any more fluid to the steering box and goes into bypass...
