    it sounds like a good idea unless the mechanical pump diaphragm fails. then the electric pump can fill your crankcase full of diesel.

    carter is the way to go for newer ones, sounds like they are still not as good as they should be but stay away from airtex. i have heard of guys scavenging old engines to get the original factory lift pumps. they claim they are the best.

    sounds like a good deal, you can't buy the parts to do all of that separately for that price. now you have an intact vehicle to pull the parts from and sell the rest.

    i think the problem with that is like mentioned by Wes, the later axles had a longer pinion which could cause the driveshaft to be to long. the driveshaft might have enough play to be fine but it is not a guarantee

    the ATF is worth a try, these engines dont seem to like to run light and sit a while. i swear after running a heavy load and getting them good and hot helps to settle them in and let them run better.

    that is going to be a steady trickle, how much exactly is up in the air. depending on driving load and the age of the injectors. the more they are worn, the more they will pass though some fuel.

    for the price i see them go for i built mine, i poked around for a while before i did but could not really find anything. the price of a new one was a no-go with the budget. if you have some metal around you can easily build a set up much more "heavy duty" than some of the aftermarket ones anyway.

    interesting, i wonder if he could use the newer hardware with analog gages? i actually don't like digital gages for something that i want to scan over quickly checking as i drive. i know not quite as accurate but it is much easier to mentally quickly process.
