OBS clip....or leave it a brick nose??
Granted I haven't done an IC install on either bodystyle (yet :sly ), I've always been under the impression that it's easier to install an IC on an OBS front end. You have more space between the front of the core support and the back of the grille, whereas on a bricknose, it's a very tight fit...- The Warden

Hood insulation
IMHO that's the single biggest argument in favor of keeping it. If the paint on your hood's good, this will help to keep it that way...if the paint's already trashed and you don't intend to repaint the truck, it may not be worth it. Brake controllers
Just out of curiosity, why did the hydraulic brake controllers fall out of favor? I have an old Tekonsha hydraulic controller in my '84 and have been very happy with it. IF AND ONLY IF you are pulling the timing gear cover (the plate behind the water pump) to expose the cam and crank drive gears, you can pull the injector pump and IP drive gear housing as one unit. I would pull the timing gear cover first, so you can have a good idea of how it'll go back...- The Warden

coolant filter question

I forgot about Heath's setup...on the other hand, moving the radiator back isn't really an option with a 6BT swap unless you eliminate the engine-driven fan. The setup I was referencing was Sean (6 Nebraska IDIs)'s truck...I recall that he couldn't even use a thin aftermarket grille! However...- The Warden

I know of one person who was able to stuff both a full-size intercooler and an a/c condenser in a slant-nose front end, and he eliminated the grille altogether and IIRC did some sheet metal cutting as well. It's EXTREMELY tight...heck, it's a chore to get an intercooler and an a/c condenser to...- The Warden

oil squirters, removal, cleaning, reinstall

As I've always understood it, the proximity of the hole for the block heater to the engine mount plays a role as well...on the early engines, the block material is thin enough to flex a bit in relation to the engine mount. So, i got into an accident today...
For what it's worth, E-Series vans (at least early 80's to 1991) used the same steering gearbox as the pickups/Bronco. So, if you go junkyard-hunting, that gives you one more group of vehicles to look at. With that having been said, if you can swing it, the Redhead steering box is the way to...- The Warden

Westach dual gauges?
A good friend of mine has the pyro/boost gauge on his '04 Dodge. He's happy with it ;Sweet I don't think I would buy it for myself, only because I would have difficulty reading it while driving down the highway...I'm a big fan of 270 degree gauges...- The Warden

Possible to put Super Duty body on '84 frame?
For what it's worth, I came across a slant-nose truck that someone had swapped a SuperDuty bed onto a few years ago. Given how mismatched the lines are, I'm guessing the guy went with the first bed he could find, so I would guess that it didn't take too much to get the bed bolted on. No idea...- The Warden
