7.3 IDI Turbo Build for '87 Crew Cab Dually 4x4

That’s odd my ARP 6.9 head studs said 80ft lbs in them Si that’s what I did.

Can an alternator electrically be destroyed by the engine?

I wouldn’t be surprised at all if two parts store alternators went bad, how about having the alternator bench tested by a local old school shop?

    Pulled a 1987 out of a hole

It’s all fixed now and it works great! The bolts on the pressure plate were loose, when I torqued them down something must have been not quite right and after in installed the engine things aligned and now it all works perfectly. It is also now like a 5lb clutch pedal push whereas before it was...

    Pulled a 1987 out of a hole

I will check on that, it would be really nice to not have to take my transmission out.

    Pulled a 1987 out of a hole

I got it all together and it seems to run quite good but I don’t have full clutch disengagement so I can’t get it in gear from a stop without jamming it. If I have it in gear with my foot on the brake and the clutch pedal all the way down it will keep running without bucking or dying but there...

    Pulled a 1987 out of a hole

If you look very carefully you can see a broken bolt in there, I got it removed but I was one short. So for balance purposes I bought all new grade 8 ones and trimmed them to length. The heads on the new ones are slightly smaller than the old will that cause a problem? I am in a hurry to get...

    Pulled a 1987 out of a hole

Interesting, yes it seems that it was just a random bonus bearing. I just wanted to make sure it wasn’t some critical thing I had never heard of.

    Pulled a 1987 out of a hole

As best as I can tell the luk kit came with two pilot bearing options, one fits perfect and the other one not at all so I installed the one that fits and am choking the other one up to spare parts.

So than what is the bigger thing on the left for?

    Pulled a 1987 out of a hole

This looks like a normal throw out bearing. But what is the bigger thing on the left? Both are in the kit and I’m not sure what the bigger object is for.

How good or bad is the E4OD?

I said the wrong word and I just meant pushing the button on the end of the shifter.

How good or bad is the E4OD?

I have one that was built by a local shop in my powersmoke and I quite like it, the new cooler the shop put with it is physically larger than my house, and the shift kit gives it a good firmness. I do use the OD lockup quite frequently just because it likes to lug the motor out but that’s the...

    C6 fluid change advice?

Yes a fluid change can finish off an old automatic, it’s happened to me, but an automatic transmission is just a giant pile of clutches and lasts about as long as a truck clutch on a standard trans. If the fluid change is the end of it it simply means it was going to die anyways.

    Pulled a 1987 out of a hole

This had actually been totally leak free which is surprising, good thing I did the reseal. One side slid on perfectly with the press and the other side was not as smooth, hopefully it went well and nothing hung up. I used a lot of O ring lube and cleaned everything to debur.

Valley pan gasket? 7.3 idi turboed

Do you need to RTV the head and intake sides when you have a brand new one?

Is there a way to make a high idle switch?

Doesn’t hurt to park over a pit either, that’s how they built the alcan highway. They parked over pits so they could have a fire under the engine to warm it without burning the truck. This is a “do not do this at home” idea.

    Boost on 6.9/7.3 idis

I have heard of much higher numbers for a studded 6.9. The difference between 7/16th and 1/2 is 1/16th inch and that is substantial but it is not huge.

    New Project Truck. 92 250 4x4 Manual.

Surface rust on lifters is in my opinion no big deal at all, mine had some just from sitting in a hole in the ground for ten years. The surface rust went away into the oil and never caused a problem.

Do any of the headstuds need rtv to seal a coolant passage or anything?

    Pulled a 1987 out of a hole

I didn’t have a bottoming tap, but I do have a cut off wheel.
