Banks 1st Gen turbo outlet size

They do, and last time I called (for the turbo outlet gasket) the person on the phone was knowledgeable and knew exactly what I needed. However they charged me $20 bucks for standard shipping on $11 of paper gaskets! So I have the old stud in the car with me today and i'm going to run out at...

Banks 1st Gen turbo outlet size

I spent 2 hrs today cleaning everything up. I had intended to replace the exhaust manifold gaskets however I have been procrastinating on that. I did discover something notable, if you look closely the stud is missing where the turbo flange was leaking. That stud is basically welded to the nut...

    Voltage regulator?

Are you using the factory gauge on the truck? Using those gauges for anything is worthless Mine reads anywhere from 9-13v on the factory gauge depending on how its feeling, yet the truck is consistently at 14v when measured. I put a $10 USB charger with a voltage readout in my cigarette lighter...

Banks 1st Gen turbo outlet size

Oh, Is it necessary for the nuts that hold the turbo to the flange to be locknuts? It seems like reassembly will be easier with regular nuts

Banks 1st Gen turbo outlet size

I am debating if I am going to remove the turbo mount. It’s probably another 4 hours of work to remove and install. Pro- might as well do it while I’m here. Con - prolly be totally unnecessary. I got a good look at the joint with the turbo out. The discolored spot is definitely not soot. It...

Banks 1st Gen turbo outlet size

Snugged the exhaust manifold gasket bolts down this morning. One or two was not very tight. No change unfortunately. I pulled the Turbo off this afternoon. Looks like the shop I had install the turbo did not get one of the nuts tight. The turbo mount is coming off as well, going to reseal that...

Banks 1st Gen turbo outlet size

They are quite crusty. I'd be worried i'd break one while trying to snug them up. Of course I don't have a ton of experience working on these. I have done exhaust manifolds before on other vehicles with much less rust. If I can get good access might be wiser to just wait a bit until have time...

Banks 1st Gen turbo outlet size

I have the 1st gen Banks turbo just paid $500+ to have it rebuilt and upgraded by typ4 And I can only make 4psi. From talking to others I should be seeing at least 10 if not 12-15 psi wide open

Banks 1st Gen turbo outlet size

Sooo How hard is it to get to those exhaust manifold bolts. Found 2-3 little leaks like this I think I’m in “just pull the engine” territory

Banks 1st Gen turbo outlet size

Captured the other side of that flange. This look like a leak? I’m getting only 4psi out of this turbo at 2600 rpm WOT

Banks 1st Gen turbo outlet size

Thanks wes... Changing back into my oil soaked shirt and having another go with the inspection camera. On the up-pipe to cast turbo mount, the only thing I havent inspected is the side closest to the camera in the pic you sent. The slip joint is well sealed, as are the exh manifold connections...

Banks 1st Gen turbo outlet size

I put an inspection camera down to the turbo up pipe connection at the banks turbo mount flange. Could only see one side but it was clean, no soot. The gasket around the turbo is new and no soot. Replaced the CDR blockoff Oring today, no change.

    Do I need injectors/IP?

Pull the fuel filter and dump out the diesel (better yet start with a new filter). Fill it up with ATF. Run the engine for about 2 minutes to allow the ATF to make it into the pump/lines/injectors. Let it sit overnight. The ATF will dissolve a lot of gunk and might unstick whatever is stuck.

    Do I need injectors/IP?

you could try injectors first, then IP if that does not clean it up. Also worth trying the ATF trick. From what i've read it takes about 100k for a pump to actually wear stuff out. But only a few months of sitting to gum things up.

Banks 1st Gen turbo outlet size

Well no luck. I still think I hear an exhaust leak from inside the cab so that turbo is going to have to come off.

Where to plug this vacuum line in

Thanks for the help. I had to trim the conduit back but I found the vacuum line. Reconnected with new rubber connectors. All the functions work now  If only everything else was this easy!

Banks 1st Gen turbo outlet size

Some time with a mirror indicated no soot around the up/pipe to turbo bracket. I would have to remove the turbo and the up-pipe bracket to get to that joint, probably a 3-4 hour job. I did see some soot at the two manifold to up-pipe connections. Previously I had busted those loose and...

    Head retorque questions

I have the same questions. Did you remove any of the inside bolts? Were the threads soaked in oil as well? They may not be. My thinking was that id probably hit the heads of the outside bolts with some oil and break them free before proceeding.

Where to plug this vacuum line in

Does anyone have a pic or can explain where this recirculation solenoid hooks into the vacuum system. Mine is not connected to anything.

So what did you do with your truck today?

Combination i'm sure. I've had mixed results paying for work on the IDI. If its not a very straightforward job unfortunately i'm finding out the old saying "if you want it done right, do it yourself" applies. I've had to re-do some work I paid for. The only exception is my front-end guy I think...

Anyone using new Banks, Hypermax, R&D, or home made turbo kits?

I have the same turbo just put back on after modification/rebuild by russ. Unfortunately I have some exhaust leak issues at the moment but I did talk to some other forum members here before pulling the trigger on the modification and I expect it to perform well.

Banks 1st Gen turbo outlet size

I crawled under the truck this morning with a can of Free All to start soaking the up pipe nuts. This is the only connection I haven't reset/resealed and I believe I hear a minor exhaust leak coming from it. Both of my connections at the exhaust manifolds were leaking when I got the truck so its...

This is from earlier today, a photo of my dog enjoying the new AC compressor I installed last weekend.

    Twin Pyrometers?

My truck (turbo) currently has a 3" exhaust with an aftermarket chamber style muffler. I'd like to be able to hear the turbo a bit, thinking a straight-through is the way to go. Are these glass packed? Which brands can yall recommend? Don't want to run completely without a muffler. The truck...
