    E 350 V Belt Issue

The '90 NA 7.3 E350 I'm working on was missing the alternator belt when I got it. I got a ribbed one for that, and the AC belt that was seriously worn. I know I had decent tension on all the belts and they were all seated correctly. The alt, PS, and AC belts all go over both crank and cam...

So what did you do with your truck today?

Had to repair the box truck transmission on the yard at the hill it died on, and thought I had it mostly level on jacks when I added the ATF. Also thought I had mostly evacuated and replaced the cooler, lines, and new filter, so added three gallons and fired it up. Took a dipstick reading which...

So what did you do with your truck today?

I cheated. Pulled it off, wire brushed, then took it to a shop and spent $20 to have them press on a new cooler I supplied. Was confident I could get the pieces to squeezed enough to remount, just not confident I wouldn't muck up one of the seals. Well done.

    C6 Detent Question

ROFL.. your the second person to suggest flames. I can see it now, box truck with flames pegged out at 60 mph as angry old guy in RV blocks the fast lane to pass at 61.5 mph.. with 20 something basement dwellers spreading the love for having to slow down.. Yeah, was waiting for level ground...

    C6 Detent Question

Picked up some 1/2" rod and ran into each side bottom transmission bolt hole to use as guides. Wish I'd thought of that before. It made setting it a simple process instead of the previous all day battle. Fired it up, let the ATF circulate, and gave it some throttle. First time it's moved on...

So what did you do with your truck today?

Lived in N. Idaho and 95 was only N/S route. Spent a summer "working vacation" at the Coeur 'd Alene tribal HQ. Wired up a shopping center, new HQ, and Fish and Game office. My wholesaler dropped off my parts on the side of 95, behind a mile marker whenever they had runs from Boise. Bought a...

Clutch pedal stiff & doesn’t engage the clutch when depressed, also pedal gets stuck when coming back out?

I just converted a C350 from E4OD to ZF. The '89 master and slaves don't come pre primed, so I had to install bone dry parts, then bleed myself. Aside from having to recondition the brake/clutch assembly after it had sat for 15 years in a field, I installed a stage 3 South Bay, and did it all...

Best location for E4OD temp sensor?

Never thought about that, probably because OD was fried long before I got it, I'm the 3rd owner, the guy I got it from made sure to inform me he couldn't drive past 55mph due to rpm's. First thing I did was 4" lift and 35's, which got me to 70 for short bursts. Did just finish a C6 rebuild...

Best location for E4OD temp sensor?

I have a dead E4OD waiting for a scrap run sitting in the bone pile from the ZF swap. Planned on heading over there today, will check the pan, if it has a drain you can have it. Will get word back to you by end of today if that works.

    C6 Detent Question

The problem with posting on a forum is it's there forever. Had I just taken the moment to flip it over and pull the pan I would have realized immediately that everything was working EXACTLY as you described. What I thought was a reverse gear lock was actually the park lock. What I thought was...

    C6 Detent Question

Once you snug and tighten the nut...(not TOO much...you can break the lever shaft and then have some fun trying to find another one...)...you should not have any problem rotating the lever all through the ranges... Once I lined up the rooster cone correctly it then travelled to the end and set...

    C6 Detent Question

I knew somewhere there was a chart with the cross reference in one easy to read glance. However, as mentioned in the post, the only results I got were obviously incorrect. .089 is a definite possibility, the "hair size" hole was just an estimate...lol

    C6 Detent Question

Not really, buying a used wrecker yard tranny has never been my preferred method. Besides, I just figured out how to respond to multiple individual lines. Was having fits trying to figure out how other folks were doing that. Cool. Which is why I decided to do my own rebuild in the first place...

    C6 Detent Question

Going through the manual I remembered why I ignored the park section. Here's the paragraph on disassembly. Here's fig 31 I didn't want to start drilling and tapping parts to pull that didn't need to be removed. On the NSS it talks about using a #43 drill shank as a guide pin to line it up on...

    C6 Detent Question

Nope. I didn't index the park. Went out and played around a bit, then cracked open the ATSG C6 manual. Dang. At least I can leave all the drums, guts and oil pump in place, so there's that. Just the output housing, I think the governor can even stay. Going to pick up some 1/2" x 13 all thread...

    C6 Detent Question

Heh, I tried to limit the post by not listing every detail, of course the first person to read it is a eagle eyed mechanic. I had started to pull the band anchor to get better access to the detent nut but then tried a different angle of attack. I planned on a ban re torque once the link timing...

    C6 Detent Question

I installed a C6 that I rebuilt via U Tube University, and didn't have park. Took a picture of the NSS, which shows the selector pointing at the middle sharpie mark. The mark on the left is Park, middle is Rev, and left is Neutral as determined with a meter. With the gear selector in Park the...

    Someone go get it!!!

Don't actually use it for shopping, always just stay out in the "back 40" when a run to town when camping is required. What's really aggravating is to come out to discover some beat up POS parked so close that you can't open one side doors. There can be 20 empty spaces in the area, and some...

    Mystery Starter Wire

That's what I thought, but now there's no reaction when I turn the key. I think it's something to do with the switch on the c6 though, and not the jumper. Gave up for the day.

    Mystery Starter Wire

During the installation of the C6 I discovered a positive cable attached to the starter, on the jumper from the battery. It was hanging down near the vacuum diaphragm, there was nothing anywhere close that it appeared to mount to. Here it is laid out after removal. I'm thinking it must have...

So what did you do with your truck today?

It isn't a virtue.. it's a freaking sickness. A disease of the mind that conjures up all manner of twisted breakdown and component failure potential scenarios. If I'm not careful pretty soon I'll be out there pre-filtering new oil... just in case.. argh!

So what did you do with your truck today?

Got the C6 bolted up to the box truck, was about to pour in the 12 quarts and realized there's a transmission oil filter, cooler, and lines connecting everything that also take some volume. It's sitting at an angle, engine up, which is where the transmission quit. Because of that I can't check...

So what did you do with your truck today?

Pretty clean stat for 12 years old. Regardless of the run hours, it was submerged the whole time.

    Swap to '03 SD Axles

Exactly. It's difficult to sort the truth from a sales pitch. Adding extra junk just means more crap to break down.
