    Swap to '03 SD Axles

Did you leave the proportioning valve in place even though you now have 4 disk brakes? From what I've read is using matching axles the caliper size is supposed to be designed to allow the correct pressure without the need to manually balance.

So what did you do with your truck today?

Good luck on the set, would be brutal to have to demo all the wrap. I gave up and just insulated the firewall. It's crazy how flipping tight that engine is after having it out. I imagined that engine bay was probably the size of some caveman's palace executive suite when doing mine.

    Slave Cylinder Bleeding Trouble

Mounted a 3/8" x 50' hose reel just inside the third bay door and plumbed it to the compressor. Can hit almost anywhere in my 1500' garage and anywhere on the driveway that anything is parked. Works great, except I have to borrow a compressor for anything beyond a simple tire. Which my neighbor...

    Slave Cylinder Bleeding Trouble

If you can set up a compressor I used a Bilt system off ebay to first evacuate the old fluid, and then replace with new. It creates a vortex using compressed air that they tap into the vacuum present at the vortex. It amazed me at how low that amount of vacuum was and how effective the system...

So what did you do with your truck today?

I put one of those in my 7.3, it's doing the job, so far. Have only drove it around the block once, but have run 1/4 tank out adjusting stuff and dialing in mods. Front and mid row seats are out right now waiting for my ass to finish interior. I just start it every day that I get out there and...

    C6 Torque Converter Prime

I briefly thought about trying to use it, but as you probably already know that 3:00-6:00 position is the only access. Suppose I could work it to the 3 and fill 1/4 full. But as was already mentioned, it probably wouldn't be bothered as oil would be circulated before it even started.

    C6 Torque Converter Prime

I haven’t either, that said, I haven’t worked on an auto transmission since the 80’s during my hot rod days. Been reading too many c6 articles and they’re starting to rot my mind.

    C6 Torque Converter Prime

Due to the location and angle of the torque converter I planned on priming it with a 1/2 quart after installing. Made up a hose on a funnel and inserted it into the hole. I only tried a small amount and sure enough it pretty much just ran out. The drain hole is on the back so access is not...

    Stripped Bolt on C6

Getting the C6 ready to install after rebuilding it, only had the output shaft housing and oil pan to go when one of the six output housing bolts stripped. It is the bottom left, behind the transmission mount. Used all new grade 8 bolts, all the others torqued to spec. I don't think there's any...

So what did you do with your truck today?

Had to break down and pick up a air chisel 3/8" drive attachment to pull the C6 torque converter nuts off. Wound up using a easy-off nut remover on the impact while spinning off with a long 3/4" end wrench. Top view doesn't show the "best" one. Heh, just a fun day of laying around in the...

    Grease for starter grounding surface

This may be the ONLY question I'm qualified to answer. Spent almost 50 years as a master electrician before retiring this year. There's a compound we've used on conductor connections for decades that resist oxidation and increases conductivity that's called De-Ox. In truth, the main bonding is...

So what did you do with your truck today?

Rebuilt a C6 that's on a '90 U Haul 20' box truck with a stock 7.3 last year, then started the C350 project due to bad weather prevented install. Went to slap the pan on and realized the shifter was 90° off. Already had the valve body on. Which meant the drive and forward clutch packs, band...

    Rear axle questions

I planned on a full brake and wheel bearing rehab, but I would agree, now is the time to get everything possible done, access will never be any easier. Which means the swap won't take place this weekend as planned. It's just another day on the resto-mod...

    Rear axle questions

The rear is a Sterling. How would I use that chart to find the flange that would fit my driveshaft U joint?

    Rear axle questions

Rather than start a new thread I'll chime in, after following that link I couldn't find either of these tag codes listed. All I know is there's some tape on them that say 2003 F250. I bought them from a guy who claimed he got them from a salvage yard. I know he was planning on putting them into...

    Swap to '03 SD Axles

As the title says, I'm about to do a axle swap. Picked up Sky's FS and RS kit's, and the conversion kits for some '03 axles I have. My question. The new axles have a flange at the third members that the U joint's attach to. I planned on using the axles out of my '89 and just getting a couple new...

    Someone go get it!!!

A neighbors mom back around 1973 picked up a '69 GT350 from a Sheriff in NM that got it to intercept road bikes that were tearing up the mountain roads, and after deputies kept putting it in a ditch got rid of it pretty cheap, under $3k. Six months later he then tried showing off when drunk...

Is this excessive play in the steering joints or not? '89 F-350 4x4

They did have F350 7.3's in '89, as I have one myself. I also have the full factory service set, three volumes, about 2600 pages. The steering sections cover about 50 pages. Can't post it here. Shoot me a pm

Leaf Springs for SD Axle Upgrade

The last axle conversion kit is due to ship. Am using Sky Offroad RS front and rear conversions. Those will take '08-'16 SD leaf springs. I will be adding bags in the rear, but probably not for several months. My quandary is deciding which springs are best. I realize the more leafs means higher...

1 wire swap? Haven't heard of that.

    Hydroboost Conversion

V belt. I know the resistance of full 160 amp draw can seize a single V belt pulley on a higher rated alternator. That said, I believe a smaller 130 amp one will work, and that'll double from stock.

So what did you do with your truck today?

The thunder sounded like a bunch of fireworks back to back, with some pretty good lightning. Was going to take the road bike, then asked the hotel about the weather out there and they said it was about to get bad. Glad I listened. Left the car show, got the room in Salem, then went to visit mom...

So what did you do with your truck today?

I didn't roll in until Saturday afternoon, about two hours before the big raffles. Several winners weren't three anymore and new winners were called. It was only a two day event and winding down, with some pretty decent discounts offered by vendors. All that said, there were possibly 300...

    Hydroboost Conversion

I was holding off on the 3g alternator upgrade to delete the vacuum pump, but that's going to happen as soon as I get the axles swapped. There's really no good excuse to not do it.
