    Engine assembly

I had one too. Definitely hard to turn. I put a 4-ft steel pipe on the handle bar, and would turn it with that. Once I had the heads on, the engine wouldn't turn at all. I bent the Harbor Freight handle. I ended up using my shop crane and turn the engine with the motor mount brackets and...

Where is this water coming from??

I'm thinking front plate seal too, but I'd first replace the lower rad hose gasket first.

Opinions needed! Ford factory IDI turbo kit

I'd be really surprised if it truly was "complete." Post some pictures of the kit and we'll help you determine if it is all there.

    Truck runs rough

If it runs odd and there is diesel in the valley pan, my guess is the IP inlet seal is leaking. That would cause fuel leakage on the valley pan and air infiltration to cause the rough idle. I don't think return lines would leak into the valley pan much, but since they are so cheap and easy to...

    Engine assembly

On my website, I have a lot of pictures and step by step of my rebuilds and swaps. www.nickpisca.com/diesel I'm working on a dedicated rebuild article, but it won't be done until I finish my recent engine swap at the moment. But all the subsections (piston rings, head gaskets, torque specs...

    Urgent inner tie rod question

I have the E250 clubwagon. I ended up putting the bushing first, then the metal washer (lip side down), then put the boot on that. It seems to look and operate ok. I'll drive it for a while and see if it holds up..

    Urgent inner tie rod question

G Does anyone know which of these bushings and what order they go in? My friend mixed up all the parts. Do I use any of the green arrow parts at all? Or just the yellow arrow grease cap. I'm putting the magenta into the orange. See image for the color arrows. H H

    7.3 idi 1993 sclb 300-400hp

These are hard to find, but I've been running these chips in my IDI for years: They add about 90 horse. But when I can't find them in the store, these chips will work in a pinch. Also, the container makes a decent oil cooler:

    1988 E350 w/Gear Vendors Need Help

You should really call Gearvender in El Cajon CA. Their customer service is really good, but resist their insistence to replace your gearvender unit entirely. They are always selling.

    1988 E350 w/Gear Vendors Need Help

Take more photos of the leaks. My suspicion is the tranny is leaking and it's blowing back on the GVOD. As far as I know, my GV doesn't have a breather either.

    1988 E350 w/Gear Vendors Need Help

Wow. I thought I was the only guy with an '88 IDI van with a hypermax turbo and GVOD. As for the fluids question, they shouldn't be swapping. IIRC, GVOD customer service told me to only run synthetic Lucas gear oil. The C6 should be running Dex/Merc (coincidentally, I just looked that up...

    7.3 idi 1993 sclb 300-400hp

Adding 300 hp to an IDI is easy AF. Just keep adding stickers. it's about ten horse per sticker, so you need about 30-ish give or take the quality of the stickers. flashy metalic ones last longer. try to stay way from cheapo off-brand. I only use quality Motorcraft stickers. N.O.S. is best...

    Replacing water pump

A/C Fuse Melted in the Fuse Box

+2 on the parasitic load diagnosis. A few years back, I had a bad ground on my taillight wiring for my 98 Jetta TDI. When the taillight ground corroded in the trunk, the dash wiring would "close" the circuit and all the indicator lights would glow. Odd really. So when searching for the...

7.3L idi boots max stock pressure

It all depends on a lot of factors. Used vs new, which turbo kit you like, what you want to get out of it, how much boost you want, how to control EGT's, DIY vs professional installation, etc. That's my point. About every other week, a new person signs on to the forum and asks "I bought an...

7.3L idi boots max stock pressure

Couldn't have said it better myself. I think I spent 2 years researching, reading, posting questions, and finding options before I turboed my IDI van. Granted, the IDI truck has more info more easily accessible about turboing them, but still, it's a major engine mod and requires lots of...

Are Fel pro head gasket graphite?

I'm 99% sure they are mostly graphite, except for the obvious places they are metal and whatnot. You can tell they are graphite when you wipe them off of the block deck. Looks like pencil lead.

PLUG ON TOP OF WATER PUMP USE??

Also, if you did the Waterpump job on an IDI, you need to permatex the right bolts: http://www.nickpisca.com/diesel/engine/which-bolts-to-permatex-on-a-6-9-7-3-idi-waterpump/

PLUG ON TOP OF WATER PUMP USE??

Yeah, the OP is overthinking this. By filling the radiator, you are filling the lower rad hose. That hose is connected to the block, and when fluid flows into that chamber, it works its way up as the water level rises in the radiator. Even with the check valve, the coolant system isn't 100%...

    Fuel tank lock ring troubles

Also, I liberally applied anti-seize to the lock ring and its receiver, so that it shouldn't be prone to rusting and seizing. Also, if I had to pull this apart, having the anti-seize on the lock ring should make it easier to unscrew. I know when I took it apart, it took some decent tapping...

    Fuel tank lock ring troubles

I don't think my sender o-ring seal had a groove either. It had a lower level that helped to keep the o-ring about the right place: http://www.nickpisca.com/diesel/fuel-system/mid-80s-ford-idi-van-center-diesel-tank-sender-replacement/ But to make sure that it didn't slide when I torqued down...
