The Tru Cool cooler your builder recommended would be the Ford V10 cooler without the Ford brackets. It's a little smaller than a 6.oh cooler. It works just as well, and is a little easier to install.
Going forward to reverse while moving really will not hurt a stock E4OD. There is way to much slop in the low reverse clutch pack.
Now with a modified unit, you want a complete stop before changing directions. If you don't, stuff will break.

If its making lots of noise, but still shifts all its gears. It could be the coast clutch. They like to spit out the snap ring under a hard application. The only way to tell is take it apart.
Over tightening or tightening the bolts out of sequence accumulator body bolt can cause the 2-3 valve to stick. Sonnax addressed this issue with a modified spool valve.
I forgot about the F Superduty extension housing being different. This part is for the F Superduty E4OD only. The brake and extension housing became obsolete with the introduction F450.

To make it work. Change the converter and solenoid pack, and TRS. What year is the IDI tranny. If it's pre 92 you will need to change the manual lever.
This will be fine with a stock PSD. If you tune it, the tranny will smoke pretty quick without mods.
Passenger side connector is the solenoid pack connector. Replace it if it is broken. You can get it from a good parts store.
A bad alternator will make the E4 go nuts. It should be fully functional, just some funky shifting issues.
