Your friend has no idea about the thermostat. We run ONLY the motorcraft thermostat. It begins to open at 192 degrees and is fully open at 212 degrees. Nothing else can pass enough coolant to keep things cool on these engines. If you don't believe it try what you want but.. The motorcraft...
These electric pumps are fine for our engines. Please remember MOST of our fuel is returned to the tanks after it goes thru the injection pump and injectors.Remember its a coolant too. As built as my engine is I have never had the change fuel filter light come on.Actually the ONLY time it can on...
Welcome to the forum. Sorry to read about your isues. The freeze plugs are a special material and fit. DO NOT use anything but the original stainless steel factory plug. they are NOT a cut type plug either. They are convex. they fit into the block and rest on a lip. Then a special tool is used...
Looking at the last pic it appears the number one cylinder side of the exhaust manifold is missing but.. Further looking tells me I was wrong. The first, second and third pics shows the area shrouded by fender well insulation MAKING the manifold look missing. Funny how it looks...
That fitting is easy to remove. You may have noticed the black o ring that seals it to the housing. The threads are 1/2x20 fine machine threads. Nothing special.
What has not been talked about here yet is the header alignment. The heads really need to be aligned so they slide on easily. Try a test fit with no o rings on the bundle. That tells you have close the fit is. Then install one header at a time keeping an feel fit to insure no misalignment happens...
Here is some information on that bypass hose from the heater return to the water pump. That 1/2 line going to the bottom radiator area is JUST for the E4OD equipted trucks. So far nobody has come up with a positive reason for this engineering idea.some think it was to warm up the trans fluid...
When flushing any fuel or cleaner thru the injection pump with lines off the back or NOT connected to injectors you will see very little fuel. At wide open throttle during cranking speeds very little fuel goes thru the injection pump. No need to worry about a mess. I tip I taught myself when...
Welcome to the forum. As already posted the engine main wire harness plug usually melts because of high resistance from dirt and corrosion in it. This plug is about 3 inches long and 1 inch thick. One end has the two yellow wires that feeds power to the glow plugs. Engineering has proven two...
This forum ahs done expensive testing on meters. What works the best and is the easiest to use is the Kent Moore J33300-A meter. It will time several different ways. Probably the simplest is the pulse probe mode. You clean two locations. Install the probes. Power up the meter and press one...
If you try to run any cleaner thru the injection pump it MUST pass thru the fuel filter. The pump has clearances way less than 1 thousands. Dirt you can't see ruins the pump fast. Why do you feel you need to flush the injection pump??? If you really are guessing it needs it just connect it to...
Easy to clean out the bore IF... They are not filled with carbon. Just make very sure you get the old copper gaskets out. You do NOT want two gaskets in the bore. A 12 gauge cleaning brush works well. Make sure you clean off the top of the engine around the injectors too. Crank the engine over a...
Sometimes the over temp light on the dash comes on telling us ... Sorry its too late to save your engine now... Well the switch in the front of the drivers side head is the over temp dash light and gauge switch. Its normally open till the coolant temp reaches 242 degrees. Then it will close and...
The peddle bushings really needs to be in good shape to get the best from the clutch. Also think about the peddle travel to the amount of clutch dis engagement. About 6 inches of peddle travel is about 60 to 80 thousands pressure plate travel. Some impressive advantage at your foot.
Next time you shut down the engine try pressing in the clutch. As already posted.. My guess is the dual mass flywheel is going bad. They do make plenty of noise but still work well too.As for the mount replacement nothing special but please don't lift the engine from the bottom of the oil pan...
Figure the intake will get as hot as the engine oil gets. Usually that is about 15 degrees above the coolant temps during heavy working like hauling a trailer or pulling a hill. No coolant runs thru our intake either.
You are going to be ok driving it this way. As already posted. The stock dash gauges are nothing to depend on. Install and after market gauge and report back what you find. Also NEVER use any thermostat other than the original MOTORCRAFT thermostat. They are the ONLY one that works. they are 192...
Sorry but as already posted. Its a near impossible job pulling heads in frame. How do you know your engine has studs? Even if you know this is a studded engine removing heads in frame needs the ac box removed. Then the rear bolts or studs need to be help up and the pushrods near the back need...
Welcome to the forum. Nice looking rig and a very clean appearing engine. Good to see you went with the good electric lift pump. You will never have issues with that one. they can run dry for hours and hours with no damage..
I can clearly see the cross threading in the first pic. A knife edge file can easiely fix this but you must really work hard to keep the file bits from entering the injector top. ANY trash entering the top of the injector ruins it but good. The pin to nozzle clearance is way less that a...
They are factory placed on the passenger fender well. They have a flat wide plug and the body has two sheet metal screws holding it to the well. They are bout three inches square and bout one inch thick. you may have the internal upgraded alternator that called 3 g...
