It might be injection failing but may be the metering valve is gummed up.do you run any fuel additive? If not how many miles are on the injection pump. Generally speaking 125,00 miles and they are worn out. Some claim much more mileage but I'm suspect. Majority here know 125,00 os the break point...
May need a sharp chisel and cut off the heads. Then you can easily remove the bolt threads. Mine were replaced with hex head bolts before I purchased my rig back in 94. I recall they are 14x28 thread bolts. The hex is 7/16. Works fine really..
The cam lobe for the lift pump must be facing up so you have less pressure on the lift pump arm. It makes it easier to install. And... The cam eccentric is cast iron.. Not aluminum. In the end of all this you MUST have the arm UNDER the cam. If the arm is on top of the cam it breaks off. One...
Conestoga Diesel has about the best customer service anywhere. In my many years buying from Mel I have NEVER had any issues not have I read any posts where members have had issues. In today's business world you get what you pay for. Many new members come to this site with ebay horror stories of...
No problem with running a jumper hot wire to the large spade connector on top of the injection pump. The connection you want power on is the connector closest to the radiator. the back connector is the cold advance in the pump. Only issue with a jumper wire is you MUST pull it off the connector...
I have one timing meter available for rent. As it has been for many years the fee is $70.00 for 5 days. The day count begins the day after you receive the meter. My meter comes with every tool and very simple instructions. I include my cell number in case you need answers to timing questions...
Many time coolant getting out of control is because the radiator is plugged or the fan clutch is worn out. Now very seldom do we see the lower radiator hose has lost the spring that keeps it from sucking closed. Also always use only the motorcraft factory thermostat. It starts to open at 192...
I bet the overflow hose is plugged.Mine somehow got a restriction in it.The coolant pressure would push past it but not allow coolant to be sucked back thru it when cooling down after warm up. As already posted.Bad cap or return hose is bad.
That red pressure can from Amazon is a tool I have used for years. Just don't fill it much more than 2/3 full.Air is what makes the solvent get blown out of it like a can of paint or ether.
Those screw in controllers are national pipe threads. They have to be the tapered thread so they can seal for no leaks. Am not sure what the size is but they are all the same in both heads. Our engines do not have a left and right head. Both are cut or machined exactly the same.
The pictured item is the fast idle solenoid. At best they were marginal from the factory.Read the notes about cold starts on the drivers side sun visor. It clearly tells us to press down on the throttle peddle before cranking engine. Reason for this is the solenoid is not strong enough to open...
There will never be another Towcat.... RIP Calvin. Am not too proud to say my eyes are all blurry with tears. Will never forget you...Neither will my wife.she remembers when you could tell it was her hacking into my FB account to post something I said nice about her.He told her it was becaue she...
This is terrible news for today of all days.Ken, Russ, Ron. Things will never be the same.We were that group inside the larger group called oilburners. We will go on but just a little empty inside. Can't see tp two finger type more...Rest in Peace my friend. You helped me thru some horrible...
tHATS WORN OUT. cHANGING THE TPS IS SIMPLE BUT...jUST MAKE SURE YOU REMOVE THE DRIVE TANG ON THE END OF THE THROTTLE SHAFT AND INSTALL IT on the new pump exactly. If it is not installed in the same orientation the tps will over travel and break at wide open throttle.PLEASE take pictures for...
May want to check the throttle position switch voltage on the center wire at the switch. The tps switch is located on the drivers side of the injection pump. It MUST register between .96 to 1.2 volts on a warmed up engine key on engine off idle position.
As already posted.. Welcome to the forum. Please tell us who or where you purchased the injectors from. That may tell us why the white smoke is happening. As for having the injection pump 180 degrees out of time please don't go there yet.Too many questions to ask about the injection pump...
Glad you isolated the issue and are on the way to fixing it.Please keep the forum updated on what the final fix is. Mel is a stand up guy that will take care of you. This we all know for sure.
These fan clutches are easy to modify so they come in early. Just remove the thermo spring on the front. Then lenghten the spring bend point. I recall typ4 was doing this. The heat from the coolant going thru the radiator causes the spring to heat up. That movement turns the shaft it is connected...
Having a spare is not a bad idea. They don't go bad sitting on your shelf. I'm thinking Navistar will have these. They are the designers of this engine.
Welcome to the forum. My guess is someone poured oil into the intake.Might have been a joke on someone but... No fluid will compress. This might be a reason for the flywheel missing teeth and ruined starter gear. Any chance this truck you pulled the engine from was under water??? That sure would...
Short answer is yes. Might try changing this injector to another cylinder and see if the leak moves with it. Best remove the leaker and look closely at the body and end cap for small cracks. Honestly I do not feel your injector is leaking like you posted. Mel will not send out a defective part...
