    Charging question

This link is from old goat's post for the crimper... https://promnicesk.live/product_details/70724660.html It was a little uninformative as to what dies shipped with it... A kit? Only one? Well, there is a "choose size" selector. So I did. Well, after that, I came to the notion that those...

What kind of fitting for injector pump inlet?

Something like this puppy? https://www.ebay.com/itm/195956340834 I've been considering moving my fuel filter too and adding an IP inlet fuel pressure sensor. Anyone know a good analog ( variable resistance or voltage output, not an idiot light switch ) diesel fuel pressure sensor. Must be...

    Charging question

Mf7lakes : Very happy you found it. There is nothing like the peace of mind one gets once one knows where the problem is. FWIW, my van does not have a sharp bend in the heavy battery bus. I also consider it poor practice to sharply bend wires, especially large wires, due to the tensile...

    Charging question

Another hint at finding the bad connection... Disconnect the ground of one of the batteries. Attempt a quickie start. You don't need to actually start the engine, you just need to use the starter motor as an electrical load, as well as an acoustical "meter" and listen to it. Good vigorous...

Low vacuum pressure switch work around help please

This is for my 1994 7.3L idi Ford Econoline Van... Note the vacuum switch wiring is on the left. Three wires are shown, but don't take this as truth until we know for sure we are talking the same animal here... We will need more information about what year and truck you have so we can be more...

    Batteries

Midnight Rider wrote... "NEVER solder big sized cables; slather the Copper strands with petroleum jelly and pack the end of the terminal full of it and crimp the living HEdoubleLL out of them with one of those Forney crimpers that you set on the anvil and hit with a sledge-hammer." Could I...

You are welcome. I am paying it forward for all you fellow Oil Burners who have helped me. This is what we are here for.

Very weird rough shaky idle/driving situation

Could this be a plugged fuel filter causing the IP to pull vacuum at it's inlet?

    VANS, 3rd vs 4th Gen

Can't tell much...I don't drive all that fast or long...mostly it's around to WalMart, to share a beer with a friend, or help with some problem. If anything, I change the rear door seals. The jiggling on the rear end makes a lot of squeaks!

I just noticed there are loads of cheap zd9 glowplugs on ebay

Odd... Here's an eBay listing on those glow plugs... https://www.ebay.com/itm/394117731585 The pics look like the fake to me... Whatcha think?

I also researched this during my glow plug fiasco a few years ago. You may find this helpful. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1655008-fake-motorcraft-glow-plugs-here-are-clues.html

Batteries 100% drained dead - new problem

I have had issues of weak starter trace back to corroded connectors. People usually check and clean the battery terminals first, but don't go after the other end of the wire. My experience has been slow corrosion seeping into a ground lug connection over decades. It slowly gets worse. If...

Batteries 100% drained dead - new problem

A ground return issue will often screw up a lot of circuits. If your engine block has ground return issues, it will be quite apparent when you attempt to engage the starter, so I feel quite confident an engine block is a known good ground. The best ground is the negative battery terminal...

Batteries 100% drained dead - new problem

There definitely is an art to rebuilding. I tried to rebuild mine after my glow plug disaster. All I did was make a fried alternator completely destroyed beyond all hope of repair. But at least I met the bear that got the better of me.

Batteries 100% drained dead - new problem

Nice video. The only bone I have to pick with it is about what he called the field connection, which I was calling armature current. That is how the voltage regulator controls the alternator output. I've seen this in two configurations: pull it to +12 volts, or pull it to ground, to put full...

Batteries 100% drained dead - new problem

Very happy to hear the short went away. That's positive confirmation the leak path was through the voltage regulator failing to shut down alternator armature current when the truck is supposedly OFF. I brought the armature winding short concern up because shorted turns in the alternator...

Batteries 100% drained dead - new problem

If your batteries need charging, they may be pulling the terminal voltages lower until they charge back up. The big question...did your sneak current path go away? The batteries look like they are charging...I'd just put the truck back into service and see if the batteries charge back up...

    Glow plug stuck

Newbie here, never done it, but lemme run this up the pole... I remember TV ads about engine oil additives ( Slick 50?, DuraLube? ) that showed a guy trying to stop a rotating shaft bathed in the product while a display indicated shaft torque, and how much pressure it took to break the oil...

Batteries 100% drained dead - new problem

Nero: Thanks for posting the circuit diagram. It looks like the circuit topologies are darned near identical to mine, but packaged a bit differently. I have the 3G and agree that the 3G is a lot cleaner approach...cuts out superfluous wiring. Just spin the alternator and it manages battery...

Batteries 100% drained dead - new problem

I looked at all the previous posts on this thread and realized that same thing. Your alternator is not the same as mine, so I am in new territory here. My wiring diagrams are no longer germane, so I am falling back to some old generic experiences I think that little connector you pulled is...

Batteries 100% drained dead - new problem

Looks like you nailed it...on the first try! The following applies to me, if you have the 3G alternator ( voltage regulator mounted on back of the alternator ), this is how I would proceed. That smaller terminal you disconnected goes to one leg of the three phase alternator stator winding...
