    Maybe a 911?

Your engine isn't frozen, I hope. Your statement about knocking power down at the cluster leaves me to think something's drawing considerable power. Like something locked up...

    LED Bulbs

The ones I keep meeting are like Mercedes Benz Sprinter vans. Gorgeous to look at, but the maintenance costs are too high. They are finicky and always needing something expensive. My neighbor actually had one.... The wimmen, not the van, and that little soiree cost him his house...

    LED Bulbs

I use LED arrays like these: https://m.aliexpress.com/wholesale/10w-led-chip.html Into my stuff. Most arrays need a ballast driver. Constant current source. I'm looking for being hermetically sealed, solderable, easy to heat sink ( I often mount using RTV silicone for both thermal coupling...

    LED Bulbs

Almost every LED product out there seems to have been designed by bean counters. LEDs do not like heat. If it's too hot to keep your hand on, it's too hot. I always look for massive heat sinks and good thermal coupling. God knows how many LED installations fail because of poor thermal...

    Limp mode e4od

Please pull the codes first. When I first got my van, it went from occasionally screwing up to consistently terrible. To the point I was ready to replace the controller with switches and relays, and drive it like a manual. The controller kept complaining about it's VSS. I ended up...

    obd reader

The PCM protocol pre-dates OBDII. I believe there is a simple way of pulling codes with a jumper wire and counting flashes of a test light or wags of a meter needle. https://duckduckgo.com/?q=reading+e4od+trouble+codes

Not a diesel But the wife is broke down.

DoubleDamn...that stuff takes several hours to set... But I've used it for water leaks too.

    Slow crank

Most of times I have seen something like this, it was a grounding issue, as everyone carefully inspects the path the current takes to get to the starter, but does not inspect the path back. Tumbleweed posted one I haven't seen yet, but sure see how that could happen, knowing wicking.

    Voltage regulator?

Franklin2 posted this on page 4 https://www.oilburners.net/attachments/af69710d-8dff-4985-bf1f-55e708fcf0fb-jpeg.124143/ Trace the battery indicator light circuit to see the root of my confusion. Looks to me like the regulator has to ground the I wire to light the indicator.

    Voltage regulator?

That puts to bed any thoughts I was entertaining about an internal short in the alternator making it put out even if none was called for. I am puzzled why the battery light came on. Disconnecting the I wire should have depowered it. If you had a shorted cell in each of your batteries, yes...

    Voltage regulator?

Masters degree in Business Administration. Technical people are often made subordinate to them. They often have little to no technical training or experience. But they excel in cutting costs and the psychology of "leadership". Also known as "bean counters". It takes everything out of me to...

    Voltage regulator?

I am not so convinced you've nailed this yet. You have batteries that need charging. Don't button this thing up until those batteries become fully charged. Will it overflow or throttle back? I'd watch that thing like a hawk. It would sure be nice if you were closer. This is the kind of...

    Voltage regulator?

Selah... About the volts, amps, and water analogies... Think of volts like pressure. Think of amps like a flow rate. Think of resistance like a blockage that resists flow. Now, a battery is kinda like a water tower. It may take 140 PSI to get water up and into the tank. You get it back at...

    Voltage regulator?

I wish I had the internal schematic of the regulator. It has three connections... A, S, and I. Battery voltage can be implied from any of them! A is most direct by a long shot. S ... If you look at it , it's a half sine wave, single phase, whose peak voltage is 0.7 volts ( one diode drop )...

    My arduino gauge project

The VR sensor is little more than a coil of wire on a magnetic rod, biased by a permanent magnet on one end, the other end looks at things like passing gear teeth. It's a very robust and simple sensor. Think of it as just the secondary winding of a transformer. It's only sensitive to things...

    Voltage regulator?

If nothing else, you got experience. Had to howl a bit over that buffalo nickel and vise grips. I 'm a cheap bastadge too, due to layoff, and really got burned out trying to appease the tie people. Always justifying their humongous salaries by screwing everyone else. Yeh, I'd like to have...

    My arduino gauge project

You have a tach sensor for the E4OD. You need an LM1815 www.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/lm1815.pdf To interface to the VR sensor. Probably want to feed it to an interrupt. Upon interrupt, increment. C++ unsigned int and return. Main program have 5Hz or so timing loop. Keep reading tach count in...

    Voltage regulator?

Wollared out. Interesting technical term. Got another one for you...often, the now undersized shaft starts rolling inside the wallered out bearing, instead of sliding, setting up a gawd-awful vibration that rattles the rest of the machine apart. What's the technical term for it doing this? I...

New starter for me! Powermaster 9050

Thanks! I've learned long ago it's prudent to ask first if I don't know for sure. I'm still envious of you truck guys for your easier to get at engine bays.

    Voltage regulator?

Good Lord! How did you get that nut off? CW or CCW to remove? I can't get the rotor to lock to get any torque on the nut. 15/16. I bet an impact wrench would get that sucker off. I figured I'd take it apart just to see how it went together, maybe I could get it running again. A little...

    IDI Mileage
