    Big Ugly goes to rehab

Well it's taken me a while to get to another update in here. Water pump went in well except for one thing. It didn't fit. I mean really it did except for one of the bosses in the casting hit the belt tensioner bracket. And being in a hurry I didn't check fitment before I had the gasket and...

    Glow plug connectors-really good ones

This was a timely thread. Just looking at my glow plug connectors a couple of days ago. They are looking rough.

    Big Ugly goes to rehab

For those of you who have been following along with this thread you've seen some progress along the way by now. And also that I've been using this truck a good amount over the past 6 months. As such the weak links are sure to show themselves and here lately they have not been shy at all. On...

    Big Ugly goes to rehab

Okay just to put some of ya'll minds at ease I did these yesterday. (Thanks for the link Wes) While they fit alright the spacing on the grommets is a little tight compared to the originals. Better than nothing for sure.

Yeah that was my reasoning for not replacing them. Mine are round, and not bad really but since I had it apart.....

    Big Ugly goes to rehab

Time for another update. So the most recent issue with Big Ugly was sticking drum brakes. I ordered a bunch of brake parts and got ready to tear into it again. Thanks to the people who replied to my brake thread I went ahead and ordered new E-Brake cables as well. Good thing because this was a...

    Tach question

Logan I just went through this exact issue about 3 weeks ago. Mine was intermittent at idle but seemed fine at speed. Well it seemed that way on the tach but in reality was causing issues with the trans computer. It was bad enough my torque converter would lock and unlock under steady cruise...

    Big Ugly goes to rehab

One last update before I go on my trip this weekend and effectively forget I own a truck for 4 days. (Barber Vintagefest) I adjusted the FIPL this morning. It was at .65V at idle prior to. I set it at 1.22V at idle. At max throttle it reads 4.25V. Ran an errand and it's way better. EGT's are...

    Big Ugly goes to rehab

You make a valid point. I default to the Garrett line because I'm very familiar with what's what. I've looked at the BW stuff but not invested the time to learn the maps, airflow, sizing etc. Guess I've got some research to do before making a decision. Thanks for mentioning that.

    EGR delete questions

When I did my delete on my 06' I left the valve in. I still got an engine light. Code was something like egr flow. When the EGR opens the computer expects a subsequent drop in flow from the MAF sensor in the intake piping. If it's not within the expected range it throws a code and the CEL. My...

Any stand alone controllers for the 6.0

Got my curiosity going here. BTW love the idea of your project. Okay so on to my observations/questions. Seeing as the 6.0 (I do miss my 06' King Ranch) has the FICM, which in and of itself is a stand alone injector controller, what inputs is it actually getting from the vehicle and could...

    Big Ugly goes to rehab

Injectors are B codes I believe. Got them pressure matched from typ4. They probably have about 12k on them. Yeah timing is definitely off. I'll adjust that before I go driving too much more. I'll play with the wastegate settings. It's not currently plugged. I'd eventually like to switch to an...

    Big Ugly goes to rehab

I saw 5 lbs in OD at 1800 rpms. With my FIPL improperly adjusted line pressures were too low and I could hear/feel the transmission struggling so I didn't try to go higher for fear of damage to the tranny. In 3rd on a hill I saw 7 (not near full throttle) at about 1000f on the EGT gauge. Before...

    Big Ugly goes to rehab

Okay update. Aside from the dragging brake issue I asked for help with earlier the Moose is a success. I need to time it as it seemed a little retarded. Boost came in earlier but EGT's are much easier to get too high. In fact with the other pump I couldn't get them over 1000 ever. Now if I give...

Drum brakes dragging need help. Stuck on road.

Well what I did was unplug the RABS valve, bled the pressure off the rear brakes and babied it the 40 miles home. Had to make several hard stops (luck with the lights in a 55 zone) and as I neared the house they were smoking again. So now the troubleshooting on that begins. I love this truck...

Drum brakes dragging need help. Stuck on road.

So the excitement of the Moose install was almost immediately squashed but my rear brakes dragging. Stopped at a light and saw the smike rolling off the rears. Truck was feeling a little sluggish and temps were high. Coolabr, trans and EGT. I was thinking maybe the moose is just too much fuel...

    Big Ugly goes to rehab

Well we are now Moosed. Pump went in without issue and truck fired right up after bleeding the lines out. 4, 10 seconds cranks and the lines were bled. Tightened the lines at the injectors and fired right up. No leaks that I"m aware of yet. Checked the area of the advance piston and no fuel...

    Big Ugly goes to rehab

Continued. I adjusted the old advance arm to match the Moose and loctited it in place. Moose eas set at 4.21mm in depth. Then I stole the advance piston from the old IP and installed it in the Moose. Then I reinstalled the advance arm. Here it is cleaned up and ready to be swapped in...

    Big Ugly goes to rehab

Well today is Moose day. Background, in October/November of 2007 I had a Moose pump built (thanks @Agnem). I didn't actually install the turbo until August of 2008 at which time the Moose went on. Truck ran well and had lots of power and it was that way in 2012 when the truck was nonlonger in...

7.3 IDI Turbo Knock -> Engine Pull and Rebuild

I held it up to the turbo flange and scribed it with a sharpie then ground it to the marking. Kind of fast and loose I know but as long as you can get it to seal on the outlet you're good.

7.3 IDI Turbo Knock -> Engine Pull and Rebuild

Regarding the downpipe flange. Could you grind down flange so it fits in the vband clamp on the turbo outlet? I ask because when I made my downpipe I found a header flange that was larger than the turbo outlet and just ground it to fit. Been working perfectly for years.

    Big Ugly goes to rehab

No not yet. Too many other things on my plate. And besides it's running well just low on power relative to the moose so not been a major need. Did some more dinking around in my shop and actually put my hand on the moose. Stamped on the mounting flange it says CDI -110. CDI is obviously...

    Big Ugly goes to rehab

Today is transmission troubleshooting day. Found the tag on the transmisson verifying it is a Ford reman. From when I do not know but at least 12 years ago. So there's a good chance it has all the updated internals already. Well it looks like I have a bad solenoid pack in my transmission...
