    Flywheel Fiasco

This may be a longshot but I had a grinding noise in the drivetrain of my 07' Mustang GT. It was maddening and took forever to figure out. Car was pretty much undriveable during this process. Turned out it was an imperceptibly loose flywheel. I mean I took a pry bar and couldn't make it flex...

    IDI dies at stop lights

Has the truck been sitting? When I first put my Moose back on a couple months back it did this twice right at first. Running fuel through it fixed mine but yeah some atf would be good.

    Obliterated a deer..

Man I hate that for you. Hitting a deer sucks in multiple ways. Hope the repair goes smoothly.

    Big Ugly goes to rehab

Okay so today was more progress. The POR15 was hardened and I obviously did something wrong as there were blister holes in it all over the place and foaming in some places. Most of it is fine but I am concerned about a few places and will strip the coating and redo those areas. My guess is...

    Big Ugly goes to rehab

Progress. I'm finally feeling recovered enough to do some more work on Big Ugly. First I removed the remaining interior trim, seatbelts, and back carpet. Then I took the door seals off. After that I took the interior wiring retainers out of the retainer holes and wrapped the wiring around the...

    Big Ugly goes to rehab

Thanks and I'm doing fine now. Weather permitting I hope to get it sealed up tomorrow.

    High strength head bolts

In my case that would require acquiring a 7.3 block on top of the re-sleeving costs. I've already got a 6.9 block bored 40 over and pistons to match and ported 6.9 heads. I'll attempt the resizing of the head bolts first. If that proves cost prohibitive I'll explore the 7.3 idea.

    High strength head bolts

I say go for it. I've got one (6.9) in the works that I was planning to go this route on as well. I'll be paying attention. The key here will be getting the machining done properly. I know it will be $$$ in that regard, but I would expect anyone who could re-sleeve one of these ought to be able...

    Big Ugly goes to rehab

So not really an update in the typical sense but just wanted to share that since stripping the truck floor on Saturday we have had 3 full days of rain. I opened the door of the truck yesterday while it was raining (Had 2 minor surgical procedures this week so wasn't up and about prior to) and...

    6.9 idi wont fire

When you were replacing the starter relay did you get all the wires back on properly? Almost sounds like the IP fuel shutoff solenoid isn't getting energized when the key is on. **Edit** I see now where this was fixed in the other thread.

    Big Ugly goes to rehab

My 12 year old has already laid claim to mine when I reach the next level. He's so sentimental........

So what did you do with your truck today?

Thanks for your feedback. I'll be sure to take extra time with the degreaser.

So what did you do with your truck today?

I'm going the POR15 route. Starts with a degreaser they sell, then a metal prep they sell. Then the actual POR15 paint/rust sealer. A quart of each in my Amazon outbox right now for $68. Both of the prep stages require you keep the surface wet with the product for 15-20 minutes then rinse with...

    Glow plug connectors-really good ones

Never considered that but I have a supply of them here for RC cars. Hmm I can check and report back.

    IDI Cooling System Capacity?

I've been getting the SCA additive, Motorcraft VC8, locally at both Advance and O'reilly. Less then $7 bottle.

How did you get into an IDI?

In response to the thread title "I opened the door and climbed in":bail I'll be here all week.:backoff In 2007 I was running a business installing tanks, piping, pumps and doing controls for said equipment. This kept me in Houston Texas for the better part of 16 months. Home was Atlanta back...

    Big Ugly goes to rehab

And one more thing I wanted to mention. Earlier after installing the moose pump I had asked about how to get the boost up and was concerned about my high EGT temps. To update this a little. When cruising at 65-70 my RPM's are around 17-1800. At this point I can hit 6 psi pretty easily. I have...

    Big Ugly goes to rehab

Yep that's what I did. Glad I did too because as I was stripping the paint it was obvious there were tons of spots that were in the beginning stages of starting to rust but were still invisible under the paint. Stripped floor.

So what did you do with your truck today?

Well I spent most of my afternoon getting the floor of the cab cleaned up. Looks like this now.

    A great loss.

Man that is just terrible news. I really liked Towcat. As you said a great loss.

    Glow plug connectors-really good ones

Yeah we're not at that point yet. I was referring more to the general condition of the plastic. Like all 25 year old plastic that has been exposed to heat it is degrading quite a bit and getting brittle. I lost the plastic off one plug earlier this year. Physical connection on the plug is still...

    Big Ugly goes to rehab

Now that the floor is stripped of the tar stuff I can get the rust areas cleaned up and ready to reseal and paint. Using a fiber wheel on my cordless drill (Only tool I have available that isn't at my shop 60 miles away) I managed to get a couple of the rust areas looking like this. Still...

    Big Ugly goes to rehab

Okay now for the drivers side. Here is what that looked like after removing the carpet. Notice how the sill tray is full of dirt/mud? Yeah that's not good so I went about emptying it out to see how that looked. Not the best picture as it was getting dark and well camera flash. When I got...

    Big Ugly goes to rehab

Okay so on to buttoning up the system. I installed the new evaporator, compressor and A/C lines. I had a new combo line from the dryer to the compressor and compressor to condenser but it was for the later style dryer so after a thorough cleaning and new Schrader valve I reused my original...

    Big Ugly goes to rehab

Continued. Disassembly went fairly well. The old condenser came out and new one went in by leaning the radiator back towards the motor. After that I got to work on the evaporator. Almost out. I'm thinking this was original. It had plenty of crap built up on it. No evidence of mice however...
