    Step bars

Have any of you installed step bars? I've been looking into them and some say "no drill" and then some of the reviews say they had to drill. Looking for a 'No drill" set, if they exist. Help?

    New guy to the IDIs

I wish I kept that Pursang, and the '73 Alpina, but there was no internet then so it was pretty tough to find parts. I'm sure I could have revived both of them today. And they would have some value. I traded both of them (not running) at a shop for sprockets and a chain for my XR500R. Ugh.

    Anti Gel Product (Howes)

I've been running the Opti-Lube XPD year round. Somewhere I read a test and it came out on top. I hadn't paid attention that there were seasonal blends until you mentioned it here. The XPD looks to have almost as much winter stuff as the winter blend. I've never had any gelling but maybe I'll...

    New guy to the IDIs

I had a 1984 XR500R when I lived in Utah. Was great in the desert and at Little Sahara. Before that was a 1978 Bultaco Pursang that I burned up down in Moab.

    New guy to the IDIs

That ain't vintage. You gots to have 2 shocks, like my 1978 PE250. ;-) I think I have more fun racing that than my "modern" bike (2003 Gas Gas EC300).

    Someone go get it!!!

The 1st thing that kills it for me is 2wd. The 2nd thing is the C6. If I had to drive on the highway more than a few times a year I'd have sold my truck by now (or changed the tranny). But I'm told the C6 is "bulletproof" and that's mostly what I want out of this truck.

You've come to the right place. Lots of knowledge and friendly advice here. I hope I can do my part to help you when I can.

    Battery jumper packs?

I don't drive my Benz in the winter (I'm trying to keep it rust-free) but I had to once. We had less than an inch of snow and I couldn't get up the slight incline on the road to work. A truck happened by and towed me up the last 1/4 mile. Yeah, they suck in the snow (at least with the summer...

    Wiring Questions C6 & Tcase

You'll still need the neutral/reverse safety switch, I think.

    9 years in the woods

You're fine. And you've come to the right place. With a cold engine, when you turn the key on and depress the throttle pedal it activates a timing advance and a high idle for starting/warmup. When up to temp. it will turn off and switch to a low idle. (If it's all working properly)

    Odd "ticking" noise

It does sound like plastic. But moving the lever (just slightly while driving) doesn't seem to affect the sound. But I like the info. you've provided. I should check/change my t-case fluid anyway...so I will look for debris. If my forks are toast then what's my plan then? (it goes into 4wd fine...

    Odd "ticking" noise

I don't think I've heard it at idle. It doesn't sound "heavy metal" like the lever rattling. It's more of a very light "scratchy" rattle (like a cassette tape being rewound). And the noise isn't affected when I hold the lever.

    Odd "ticking" noise

I've had this noise since I got the truck a couple years ago but it's very random and intermittent so I've just ignored it. It seems to be coming from the area of where my 4wd lever comes through the floor. It sounds like an old cassette player on FFW or Rewind. That ticky/scratchy sound. Any ideas?

Low Silicate Green Coolant - Which One Are You Using?

What's the difference between the "Precharged" and "Supercharged" in the pic above?

Low Silicate Green Coolant - Which One Are You Using?

I just grabbed 4 gallons of this. My green stuff looks fine but this was cheap enough that I may switch over. Sale price ends at end of the month.

Idi 7.3 high tork starter has anyone tried one

I got one a few months ago. Tough install but worth it. I had to run to the store and get some different 1/4" wobble extensions for the right length to put the ratchet just past the back of the starter. I put the top bolt through the flange I and taped the connected socket rig to the top of the...

    Max safe sustainable RPM

I really don't go anywhere but I need to get on the turnpike some times when I do. The speed limit is 70 mph but most are driving closer to 80 mph. My C6 gives me 68 mph tops. I read here that it's fine to run it on the governor so I run it up to 68 and set the cruise control. I don't know the...

    6.9 idi coolant drain

My 1987 6.9 n/a has green coolant in it. I'm thinking about changing it to Fleet Charge since it's on sale. It sounds like I won't be able to drain all of the green stuff out. Should I not even bother with the switch? Or should I drain what I can and then fill with water to dilute the green that...

Speedometer was ticking but now doesn’t work.

Ah. That reminds me why I sold my "modern" truck and bought an '87. :)

Speedometer was ticking but now doesn’t work.

Mine ticked before it stopped also. The cable got bound up/twisted somehow and snapped just before where it goes into my C6 tranny. I replaced it and it works fine now.

    Someone go get it!!!

It was a 2wd dually with a "good running" 7.3 and an E4OD that recently puked it's fluid. $800, near Augusta.

Tempted to grab this for a spare engine but I just don't have the resources. :-( https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/322763817345488/?ref=browse_tab&referral_code=marketplace_top_picks&referral_story_type=top_picks

    Another tire size question...

I got these mounted yesterday. They fit. Almost. They rub the running boards slightly when backing up and turning. And I don't care for the look of them vs the stock size. But they'll be better for traction and less RPMs (or higher top speed). I should probably take those running boards off...

    New(ish) to me 6.9, help!

Crack open one injector at a time and see that fuel is leaking there when you turn it over. If fuel is getting to most all the injectors then my next guess would be the glow system. You haven't mentioned anything about yours and how it has been acting. FYI, you won't find many fans of using...

    New(ish) to me 6.9, help!

Welcome. On the subject of "new" injectors. Most of them that you will find for sale are likely worse than what was in there (unless those are also aftermarket junk). So I wouldn't go through that effort unless you know they have been rebuilt properly and pop tested. Bad injectors usually won't...
