losing my mind o/d light flashing

I'm going through the same grief right now. Had a good transmission freshened up a year ago while there were still parts and capable rebuilders available. Now, 4,000 miles later I wish I would left it alone. First I found a 1 volt AC Ripple - so I replaced the alternator - still no joy. Next I...

Rebuilt E4OD 800 miles ago now having problems

The problems continue... A couple of weeks ago I started the truck, backed it up and the OD light was flashing. Several times since the OD light flashes. The last time the transmission with the OD light flashing was hunting between 2-3 around 35 mph. Took it to the transmission shop that rebuilt...

    Coolant leak

I got access to the heater core - everything looks pristine inside there - the bottom of the heater core box was dry. The passenger side of the engine compartment including the passenger side front wheel well is wet. The water pump bottom appeared dry and my worthless bore scope was on no use...

    Coolant leak

After weeks of zero leaks on the garage floor (fixed ATF, diesel, and motor oil leaks) a large dog sized *** puddle presented itself this morning. It seems to be coming from the the passenger side toward the rear of the motor but I can't see where it's coming from. The truck (1993 280K miles) is...

    Oil Pump? 7.3 PS 1995

Is that what's going on... When I look for a Powerstroke oil sending unit it looks nothing like the one in the video.

    Oil Pump? 7.3 PS 1995

I don't know. I also don't know if removing the on/off sending unit will disable the idiot light low oil pressure warning.

    Oil Pump? 7.3 PS 1995

Is there a way to replace the factory oil pressure sensor with a variable resistor sensor that would make the factory gauge more relevant? I realize there's no psi scale but my gauge has been resting on the lower acceptable line for years... maybe that's all a full 12 volts would move the needle ???

    Which version of OD off?

I'd leave it on and keep the RPMs lower. The button on the end of the shifter turns the OD on and off.

    Bigger parts coming

Sorry for your loss. Beautiful truck.

Rebuilt E4OD 800 miles ago now having problems

When I tested the alternator I did not set the engine speed to 1,500 but instead had it around 800 RPM with the high beams on. I'm not sure if the AC ripple varies with engine speed or if there are random spikes when the AC voltage increases even higher. I had my Fluke 323 amprobe set on 20 VAC...

Rebuilt E4OD 800 miles ago now having problems

Drove the truck about 170 miles today and not a single hiccup. No flashing OD light, no slamming up shifts. Even aftermarket radio #2 - a Pioneer that shut down several times worked flawlessly today. I never would have known about AC ripples without the knowledge bank available here. Thanks for...

Rebuilt E4OD 800 miles ago now having problems

Update... Replaced the TCM with a NAPA reconditioned TCM. When I first started the truck the overdrive light flashed but when the engine was shut down and restarted the light remained off. I took the truck for a short test drive - about 10 miles and the overdrive light remained off and the...

    Overdrive

I towed a 7,700 pound travel trailer many thousands of miles with the transmission in OD. Across the US and over the Sierra Madre mountains in Mexico numerous times. I only took it out of OD when the transmission searched. The original transmission lasted 220,000 miles. I think the owner's...

    TCM R&R

Then the waxy film wasn't the problem with the original TMC. UPS hopefully will bring reconditioned TCM by 7PM tonight...

    TCM R&R

In a 1993 F250 with the 7.3 IDI and E4OD the TCM is located below and to the right of the master cylinder. The TCM is removed and replaced by pulling/pushing into the firewall. There is no reason to remove the kick panel inside the cab. The inner fender has to be moved but not necessarily...

Rebuilt E4OD 800 miles ago now having problems

The always hot brake switch wire caused some fires and was the reason for Ford to issue a recall notice. I disconnected it years ago. How big of a job is it to replace the TCM? I can't even see where it is.

Rebuilt E4OD 800 miles ago now having problems

Update... Installed a new Bosch alternator. Started truck and tested for AC voltage - zero AC. Drove truck 15 feet forward out of the garage and into the yard and let idle. 10 minutes later I check, belt tracking well and dash voltage gauge where it should be. Then I see the overdrive light...

Rebuilt E4OD 800 miles ago now having problems

I probably never would have figured out this transmission problem being an ac ripple. If this solves the issue (I'll report what happens long term) I owe XOLATUM & NERO a huge amount of thanks. I most likely would have replaced the 3 sensors, then the TCM (which is no fun to access) and still...

Rebuilt E4OD 800 miles ago now having problems

No, I'll keep it simple and keep it stock. This is the 2nd alternator. Do you have a recommendation? Amazon has a Bosch for $153 and an AC Delco gold for $117. Do you think this might have been what's cooked my two radios? One was a Sony and the second was a Panasonic. Usually replacement...

Rebuilt E4OD 800 miles ago now having problems

I found this: "Set the DMM to read AC volts and measure the battery while the engine is properly warmed up and idling at approximately 1,500 rpm, which will put some load on the electrical system with the headlights and blower turned on. If there is more than 0.1 volt (50-100mV, depending on...

Rebuilt E4OD 800 miles ago now having problems

I'm not sure I'd know how to find AC on the alternator - the output is DC - I know that alternators do initially generate alternating current - but how could I measure AC? Maybe a coincidence but I've gone through 2 aftermarket radios - not cheap ones either - in the last couple of years. I've...

Tach sensor wires are fine - no missing insulation. The dash indicators for 4WD work fine.

Rebuilt E4OD 800 miles ago now having problems

The linkage for the transfer case wasn't fully clicked on when the shop installed the rebuilt transmission and came unattached a month ago. I drove it for a few days without realizing the 4L N 2H was unhooked. The transfer case remained in 2H. Are there any TCM switches that may have gone out of...
