Has anyone ever put a 6.9/7.3 IDI in a Dodge W series?

I don’t know anyone who has done it but I’ve put an IDI in a 73 Thunderbird, 78 Lincoln and 88 Bronco and don’t think it would take much engineering or effort into a W series dodge. Just my opinion.

Has anyone ever put a 6.9/7.3 IDI in a Dodge W series?

I know you’re not specifically asking this but if you are wondering if it’s feasible / easy, easy is subjective but I think it’s relatively simple to put an IDI into any engine cradle based frame. Which the W series dodges you listed are.

    Got a Bad Feeling...

Clean the area up with degreaser / whatever you choose and then UV dye the coolant and check it on a cold night. It’s not common it’s the front plate. You’re close to a common leaking area in your circle.

7.3 idi head gasket or oil cooler fail?

If you’re looking for guesses I’ll x3 the oil cooler. Pry heads off with flathead, clean up surfaces and back together with petroleum jelly. 20 ton press and should be zero resistance on it. If it feels like it “pops” on, that’s the oring breaking

    Fumoto 1/2 - 20 source

It just depends on the supplier and source origin for the reproduction pans. For example, Liland and Spectra use M14x1.25. Dorman uses 1/2-20.

    How hot is too hot

I run 285, real temp gauge, 15-20 minutes at a time. Motor runs perfect. Was fresh build and it was right on spec so doesn’t have much room to breath. Some piston wall scoring but nothing slowing it down. I also run double oil coolers

big block chevy fueling for your IDIT+!!

Yeah my comment was in response to derby being low buck and minimalistic. MWFA has been gaining popularity and that still provides really anyone a chance. Ironically while talking about this just saw a $30k Lincoln go by.

big block chevy fueling for your IDIT+!!

The days of low buck and minimalistic derby are generally in the past. Common to see $50k in cars now. Derby at bristol recently had $400k total purse. That said, there is still a street stock class for people that want to just knock windows out. @Jesus Freak This week I have to order two...

Remember that @Jesus Freak tales are fiction and solely for entertainment purposes. After this message exchange I took the parts truck off road and smashed one of the mirrors through a tree which I also updated. As we are all men no one will be sue’d for slander, I will take one 2wd c6 in...

7.3 idi runs like an animal on cold advance

this is a good explanation - credit to Justin “ So a quick blast on pump operation from inlet to outlet... Fuel goes in the cone, enters the vane style transfer pump which bumps total hydraulic pressure based on speed (and bleed, but that's tunable). From the transfer pump, it goes 3...

    HElP! I bought Jake_IN 7.3 with a dead cyl

I would set your expectations that this engine needs more machining than it’s worth. I hope it’s simple for you but I think Jake would have fixed it. Easy things you should do are turn it over by hand and feel for any mechanical piston/valve touching, compression test all cylinders and there is...

    Project Stress Test

Thanks man - it’s a Holley red pump and a new IP tweaked for this use case. Pretty sure metering valve is sticking. Also adjusting a couple other things regarding return vent and I knocked out the regulator fitting like the big pumps run now.

    Project Stress Test

I tried Aaron’s fan and with no fan, same temp outside, and the air it moved around the block and heads showed a slower climb in temp & certainly validates it’s benefits. I didn’t end up running with it. Engine kept stalling after coming off WOT so have to figure that out tomorrow. Despite...
