Talk me out of it, please

Unless I were to just sell the van with turbo on it before I leave Utah, and try to cope with an NA bus. But that would be miserable, considering how often I'm in the mountains out west. I'd rather keep it van until I'm sure the bus doesn't have a major mechanical flaw somewhere. It would cost...

Talk me out of it, please

I mean I'd like the space, while being less long than the motorhome was, with SRW and e4od, but I just can't easily get it. It's driving me crazy.

Talk me out of it, please

I'm also concerned about insurance. Companies like Allstate and State Farm have stopping writing new policies for private use, commercial vehicle conversions (such as skoolies).

Talk me out of it, please

It cost me about $1000-1200 in logistics to get the RV/bug and van to Arkansas 10 months ago. I was here in Utah, van was in Colorado. And it was pretty pain-free due to van running and seller helping by dropping off the van at the airport, as I was landing. I was able to leave my dog with my...

Talk me out of it, please

But, where would it be taken to? The "nearby" (100 mile away) RV park? Towing would probably be $500. I can't pull the bus with this van. Brakes are already in need of some attention, and the hitch is only rated 6000lbs. I have mid range AAA auto for the bug and had to use it back around new...

Talk me out of it, please

I just got this van 10 months ago, and NOW this comes up for sale 100 miles from where I am right now and very close to where I was last year. It's a 1990 E350 7.3 IDI NA SRW (nope not dually) Collins short bus, with E4OD, based on what looks like the OD button on the dashboard (other grainy...

    Oil pressure delay

Translation: less people doing more work for the same wages, making the entire system crappier for the majority, for bigger profits for the minority

    Glow Plug Controller Melting

That's similar to 6.9 style wiring, except it uses + to activate the relay. I ran a fused wire from the battery to a momentary switch and then to the solenoid, when the newer solid state 6.9 controller that threads into the engine went bad. Made it so I could fire the plugs without turning the...

    Oil pressure delay

Old stock vs new they received, maybe. The IDI budget oil filter I ordered last fall ended up being an old USA made ProSelect instead of the new Chinese made Proformer. Same part number of 21742 The coolant test strips were almost a year past expiration. So Napa has a ton of old stock sitting...

    Fuel filter question

When taking off filters, they have been entirely full for me. I dumped the fuel back into a tank with a funnel, since I was just replacing for the sake of routine replacing, not due to a problem.

    Leaking fuel tank selector valve?

That's why they say to put filters between the FSV and tanks. Cheaper to replace a filter than replace the valve. And it seems Ford did update the FSV on 3rd gen (75-91) vans. I happened to look under from the passenger side and saw this over on the driver side.

    Leaking fuel tank selector valve?

Dodge was using single tanks, at the very least in 1978. The 1 ton Class B i had, had a 36 gallon plastic tank. It was a barely used option, though. I had to rebuild the fuel sending unit as best I could (only showed 3/4 full at most) and hand make a new cork gasket because both are impossible...

    Leaking fuel tank selector valve?

Better ground clearance, extra room being used that would serve no other purpose.

Thinking Of Plumbing My Two Tanks Together

$100 for a lifetime warranty valve at AutoZone is the best option really. Then things will work properly and you never have to buy one again if it breaks or leaks. buy the kit with the switch and pigtail. toss the switch to the side and and use the pigtail if needed for older style valves.

    Leaking fuel tank selector valve?

I keep AAA mid range plan for 100 mile tows to anywhere I choose for the VW bug, and that has a 10% Napa discount on some stuff. Fluids don't get the discount, nor do batteries. Better than nothing, if I really need a part immediately and only Napa is around.

    Leaking fuel tank selector valve?

Econoline IDI radiators from Napa are ~$1300. Half as much for a 3 row all aluminum from RockAuto. RA is still twice as expensive vs CDD's 4 row. I'm guessing it's not hard to make a truck radiator fit van.

Napa prices vary by the store location you have set.

    Leaking fuel tank selector valve?

The older style I showed is also Pollak. For some reason it had two different printed instruments, and one said Pollak, as I recall. I haven't crawled under and checked the valve on this 89 E350 since it's currently working, but RockAuto is showing the older style for it. The connector is...

    Leaking fuel tank selector valve?

I'm pretty sure it's the same valve. Same connector, same pinout. The $539 oreilly one is $400 on rockauto, but good luck getting warranty on it. the $80 autozone aftermarket one worked fine for the 2.5 years I ran it before selling

    Hard brake pedal

They're good for lifetime warranty parts, or needing something in a hurry when out on a long trip, where you cannot easily get packages. Otherwise? They sell the same stuff as RockAuto.

    Traveller Smurf (Cubey's '89 van)

I don't know if it does, but it might? Power steering without the pump running makes it very difficult to turn the steering wheel. But with the wheels turning, it's easier. I had a 91 Corolla that blew out power steering so I removed it's belt and never fixed it. The RV had to be driven a...

    Traveller Smurf (Cubey's '89 van)

Dunno about vehicles with power steering. I know some vehicles have to be left running while being flat towed. You'd have to leave a key in the ignition and turned to unlock the steering wheel, at the very least. I'm sure you can find info online on RV forums, for specific models. Jeeps are...
